The Wolf Moon 🌕 the first full moon of 2026 is out tonight and we’ve enjoyed our first flurry of snow.

I feel grateful to be able to sit in the silence of the night, surrounded by the illuminated beauty of nature, and watch the moon rise above the trees.

From our little Railway Carriages in the east to the Column to Liberty on the National Trust Gibside Estate, the moon's path across the horizon is a constant source of wonder.

As I sit with a warm cuppa, listening to the calls of the owls, I feel a deep connection to these winter nights and to the natural world around me.

Wishing you joy in 2026 and we look forward to welcoming you for a stay at Lockhaugh Farm.

A pop of colour in October 🌹

A few of my roses are still flowering — a cheerful contrast to the golden, red and bronze hues of autumn and a final reminder that summer has passed.

There are over 30 roses in the garden here at Lockhaugh, each one with its own story — a gift from my children, friends, and relatives, or rescued from the sale section of a garden centre.

Guests often tell me how much they love my garden, taking in the colours, scents and stunning views over the Derwent Valley. 🌿✨

Soon the roses will be pruned back, ready to rest before another year of scent and colour.

Beautiful golden reflections in the Derwent River at the bottom of the meadow.

At the end of the day the frost is still firmly stuck to the ground despite the sunshine of the day.

When I swim in this river (and I first began when I was age 10) I’m often witness to the quiet meanderings of sheep and deer and otters.

Here my friend on a visit to Lockhaugh Farm manages to capture the essence of winter in this part of the world so very beautifully.

Boxing Day walk with blue sky and sunshine through the Derwent Valley to the Derwent Reservoir. It was a perfect day for a walk crisp, calm and quiet and a short drive from Lockhaugh Farm.

Just had a lovely meeting with Jane to discuss a year long artist residency at Lockhaugh Farm and the surrounding area.

Her project will incorporate walking and creativity in nature throughout the seasons of 2024.
