It's no secret now, south East England is becoming a hotspot for growing w**e grapes. We're delighted to be adding two outstanding local producers to our w**e list: Saffron Grange and Crows Lane Estate, both next door in Essex.
Saffron Grange is a family-run vineyard on the slopes outside Saffron Walden, just 10 miles from us, producing award-winning English sparkling w**es from land that shares the same chalk seam as those famous vineyards of northern France. We were lucky enough to visit the vineyard and be shown around by Aimie and Nick and meet Nicks father Paul, the vineyard founder. Their enthusiasm, attention to detail and care that goes into the w**e is clear and it tastes delicious, we had to share it with you! Their classic brut is now available by the glass too ๐ฅ
Alongside them, we're proud to showcase Crows Lane Estate โ another family-owned vineyard run by farmers who have farmed the land for generations. The clay soil in the Crouch valley retains water and stays cooler during those sunny Essex summer days and the proximity to the river crouch helps protect the vines from Spring frosts. All hand harvested, all their own grapes. Simon, Debbie and their two children Mikey and Millie really believe that great w**e starts with the soil and their dedication to growing exceptional fruit shines through in every bottle!
