Major a news…….

I’d like to inform all of our guests over the years that Bluebells has closed permanently. Our final booking has left and now the work begins in preparing for full time occupation.

I would like to thank each and everyone of you for staying here over the years and enjoying this beautiful cottage and it’s surroundings. Thank you for your support.

Unfortunately we have just had a cancellation from our European guests for a stay at the cottage in July.

We now have dates available from 15 - 24 July 2021.

If you fancy a last minute break before the crazy school holidays then drop me a line as soon as possible.
The cottage is the perfect place to put your feet up and unwind and have a glass of wine or picnic looking over our lake. Perhaps you would like a trip into Rye to see some beautiful buildings, find out about the history in this ancient town with countless pubs and restaurants offering fine dining all open as we speak. Or do as I have just done and spend the afternoon at the beach at Camber Sands, we had our own little area with hardly anyone around us as all the kids were at school. With these temperatures it really is the best time to enjoy the area before the mass hordes of tourists arrive in August.

If your unable to take me up on this opportunity then please share this to all your friends and get them sharing to, not only will you help us out but someone will be extremely grateful that you let them know.

It hasn’t been the nicest Spring here at the cottage but we are grateful now that pubs and restaurants and other venues have opened their doors for the public. Makes a trip to Bluebells more worthwhile as there are plenty of local attractions to see with lots to do without being rained off.

I can’t remember May ever being so awful, plenty of rain and only last week 50mph winds. The fields are now a dark shade of green which the sheep will be happy with. The two photos show last weeks storm and the healthy ground colour compared to last years summer with a completely dry landscape.

We are so happy to be open again and have met some new faces enjoying a stay with us. Some new guests will be arriving tomorrow and I think they are going to see the best of the Bluebells. They were a little later this year probably due to the cold month we have had and it’s a good job I got my gas delivery in time otherwise it would have been freezing inside the cottage aswell as outside. The last few days have been getting warmer and the chickens are really enjoying their life in the sun and living free range here at Bluebells. Please feel free to call the girls over to you. A few taps of a tray or biscuit tin with some crumbs inside and they will be well on their way.

Spring is here and those Bluebells are starting to come through now. If you’ve made an April or early May booking with us then you are pretty guaranteed to see them in full bloom. Make sure you plan a picnic during your stay where you can sit amongst them and take in the smells and sounds of a old English coppiced woodland.

Another snow fall this evening just as the sun from today started to clear the first of this years snow. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer now until Bluebells can start receiving guests again. Something tells me we are in for another hectic year with bookings already in place. If you plan on having a stay in Sussex this year then why not throw some dates our way before the major rush begins.

This Lockdown is not doing us any favours at Bluebells. It’s such a shame to see the cottage sit empty as even in the winter there is so much to see. The deer have been moving around the woods regularly and are easier to spot with the trees sitting bare and the boar are back using the wallowing pits. Today’s siting was pretty amazing.
I was in my workshop when I could hear a very angry Peregrine Falcon calling in the back field. I stopped work to see what was going on and watched the Falcon put in stoop after stoop to something on the ground. The Falcon then moved further up the hill and continued her stoops so I had to investigate. Sitting on the large willow on our field boundary was a Buzzard which took flight after seeing me, the Peregrine immediately headed after him and continued to stoop at him until he was over the next wood, she then returned and kept circling one spot in the field. The reason why she was angry was she had killed a pigeon and was no doubt robbed of her kill by the scavenging Buzzard. She then saw the Buzzard off and returned to the site to finish her meal. This all happened within 200 yards of the cottage and the display carried on for at least 30minutes all within about 30ft from the tops of the trees.

Just amazing. We don’t need to venture far to see nature, nature comes to Bluebells to see us.

Our final guests before Lockdown will be arriving any moment now. I’m sure they will have an equally relaxing stay at Bluebells and the weather this week is meant to be drier than last week so hopefully they get a chance to explore on the farm. Our busy time in the cottage is usually summer but guests staying in Autumn and Winter can equally be in for a surprise. With the leaves dropping continuously there can be so much more to see with changing colours each day, less cover in the woods making it easier to spot deer and other wildlife and the chance to cosy up on the sofa with the heating on whilst enjoying the farm views from either the main bifold doors or our wonderful dining area.

My job today was clearing leaves which is always a long task. I try not to be too particular about it as I’m sure I’ll be clearing the same amount again by the end of the week.

Hopefully we only have to endure 4 weeks of Lockdown and it isn’t extended. We are really sorry to our guests who are now unable to stay in Bluebells in November but we look forward to having them at a later stage.

Thank you to everyone that stayed with us this summer we hope to see you again soon. Please don’t forget to like and share as Bluebells may well appeal to friends of yours.
