How about this for a lovely August Sunday afternoon?
It's just a 10 minute drive down the road and not far from Chepstow castle.

Have you ever walked the whole way around Llandegfedd Lake?

There's a great 6 mile circular route which offers fantastic views over the lake, plus a wide range or terrain from woodlands to meadows, hills to stream crossings. You'll cross two counties (Monmouthshire and Torfaen) and have a great chance to see the flora and fauna that surrounds and inhabits the lake.

If 6 miles is a bit daunting, there's also a family friendly 1 mile walk exploring the woodland by the visitor centre, a gentle 1.5 mile walk through the nearby village of Coed-y-paen (with the Carpenters Arms pub at half way!), or a relaxing 4 mile walk alongside the more gentle eastern bank of the lake.

Please note the full Llandegfedd Lake walk and the 4 mile 'up and back' walk are only open March - September to protect the overwintering bird population.

At the end of your walk you can then relax at the lakeside cafe. Or enjoy the lake you've been walking around with watersports and open water swimming (pre-booking required).

Thanks to for this photo taken in the last sunny spell. More sun is coming from this weekend!

Usk Open Gardens might offer a nice day out. Approx 30 mins from The Retreat at Greenfields.

When our guests tuck up at the end of the day, it’s time when wildlife come out to play.

We’ve been paying around with a trail cam. So far, we’ve captured shots of a visiting cat, a fox, a hare and deer.

Can you spot them in these photos?
