Doggie guests are always welcome 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶
Hi everyone,
We just wanted to take a moment to reach out to our previous guests, our lovely supporters, and anyone considering a stay at Rose Cottage in the future.
We’ve had a particularly difficult weekend following a short guest stay where it became clear that our little cottage simply wasn’t the right fit for them. Some very strong opinions were expressed about their experience, and while that has been upsetting for us , it has also made us feel that perhaps we should explain a little more clearly what Rose Cottage is, what we offer, and what guests can expect when they stay with us.
Rose Cottage is a traditional, cosy, two-up, two-down Cornish miner’s cottage. It is small — and that is very much part of its charm. It’s a little Cornish bolt-hole, designed to be cosy, comfortable and homely rather than large or luxurious.
We have a lovely enclosed gravel garden and patio at the front of the property, ample parking (which is something of a rarity in St Ives!) and we’re happy to welcome smaller dogs.
We chose to welcome smaller dogs because we know how important it is for people to be able to enjoy their holidays with their four-legged family members, but we are also conscious of the cottages size.
Rose Cottage is a lovely little base for guests travelling with their furry friends, and it is within walking distance of an all-year-round dog-friendly beach.
We do, however, want to make something clear about the garden. Although it is enclosed, every dog is different. When a booking is made, we don’t know your dog’s individual personality or behaviour. We don’t know whether they are comfortable in an unfamiliar garden, whether they like to jump or climb, whether they can squeeze through small spaces, or whether they happen to be a little escape artist! 🐾
Those are things only their owners can know, which is why we ask guests to take responsibility for supervising their dogs appropriately during their stay, just as they would at home or in any unfamiliar environment.
We bought Rose Cottage because we genuinely believed it could be the perfect little escape for couples, families and guests travelling with their furry friends. That is — and always will be — what we want it to be.
It has therefore been incredibly upsetting to receive the level of criticism and personal comments we have experienced this weekend, particularly when we have always tried to be open and honest about the size, character and facilities of the cottage.
We completely understand that Rose Cottage won’t be the perfect fit for everyone — and that is absolutely okay. Every holiday home is different, and we would much rather guests choose somewhere that suits their needs and expectations than arrive expecting something we simply don’t offer.
To everyone who has stayed with us, supported us, left us lovely reviews and understood the charm of our little cottage — thank you. ❤️ Your kindness and support mean more to us than you probably realise.
Our only hope is that future guests know exactly what Rose Cottage is all about before they book, so that the people who choose to stay with us are the people who will truly appreciate its character, cosiness and location.
We love our little Cornish cottage, and we simply want it to continue to be the happy little bolt-hole we set out to create. ❤️🏡🌊🐾
