Volunteer Recognition
One of Chapter 1’s Abbeygate Shop volunteers, Dot Bates was rewarded for her efforts in the community as a Nuneaton Landmark celebrated a major milestone.
As part of Nuneaton Art Gallery and museum’s 100th birthday, staff decided to launch the ‘Big Friendly People’ awards.
A spokesman for the Riversley Park based attraction explained: “The idea came from the fact that the museum’s founder Edward Melly who did much to improve the lives of people in the borough. As part of the museum’s centenary celebrations we invited nominations from those in the community with a big heart who do a lot for the community and make life better for those around them.”
The nominees were invited to the museum on Saturday, which was the venue’s 100th birthday, to receive a special certificate from Nuneaton and Bedworth’s Mayor, Councillor Jill Shephard.
Dot, who was accompanied by Helen La Planche the Shop Manager, was nominated for her “Wonderful personality” and voluntary work that she has carried out at the Abbeygate shop.
Nat Kidd the Service Manager for 2nd Chance said “This is a well deserved award for a truly special lady. As well as previously having volunteered at the 2nd Chance superstore for several years, she is now a key volunteer at our high street retail outlet based in the Abbeygate Shopping Centre here in Nuneaton. She is so supportive of the other volunteers as well as being fantastic in her main role helping and serving our clients. She really is a Big friendly Person. Thank you and well done Dot.”
