Salisbury now has an official designated bathing space! 🏊💧

The River Avon at Queen Elizabeth Gardens is one of 13 new bathing sites in England with effect from 15 May 2026.

This means the Environment Agency will now carry out weekly water quality testing at the site throughout the summer, meaning swimmers are better informed about water quality.

So, if you fancy a dip, why not head down to Queen Elizabeth Gardens? ☀️

Exciting news! 🎨

For the first time in 200 years, John Constable’s A View of Salisbury from Harnham will go on public display at The Salisbury Museum from June 2026, marking the artist’s 250th anniversary.
This rare oil painting—on long term loan from a private collection—will be shown alongside Constable drawings and David Lucas engravings, complementing works by Turner and Whistler already in our galleries.

The painting depicts Salisbury Cathedral, the River Avon and the surrounding water meadows, viewed from due south at the eastern end of Harnham ridge.
