One of the commoner's rights in The New Forest is the right of Pannage, where commoners are allowed to turn out their pigs to eat the glut of acorns, which are harmul to ponies and cattle.

This year's pannage season will commence on Monday 16 September and ends on Friday 22 November 2024. Why not come and stay at High Forest Cottages and try and spot them 🐷.

What is pannage?Pannage is an ancient practice that is still used today by New Forest Commoners, who turn out their pigs into the Forest during the season.
