From medieval football on the beach to mass skipping on the Foreshore 🏖️🪢

Scarborough’s Skipping Day has been bringing the town together every Shrove Tuesday for generations. What began as “Ball Day” (a half-day off before Lent) evolved into a celebration filled with ropes, laughter, fancy dress, pancake races and the ringing of the Pancake Bell at noon 🔔🥞

Fishermen once handed out old ropes to children… now whole crowds jump in time on Foreshore Road.

It’s not just Pancake Day here - it’s a tradition that belongs to Scarborough.
