It was a year ago today that I came to live with these two Nutters, affectionately known as Jase The Manslave and Debbie The Boss Lady and I arrived extremely shy, but I soon found out they were as daft as me and settled in well. I don’t know what my “Feeders” and “Subjects” think of me, but I’d like to think I’m pretty curious, friendly and playful and just like “Mum” and “Dad” I to like to greet everyone that comes in our Guesthouse.

I think back to my life before retirement, where I raced all over Ireland and England, but I was suddenly dropped and it was months after this when I first noticed two lovely humans came to visit me and took me for a walk and I leaned against them both, to my surprise they came back again, but this time they took me home with them.

It was weird at first being in a House, having a comfy bed, a family but I absolutely love being here, it seems my hilarious and goofy antics have made me a great fit with these two Nutters. I sprawl around the house now like I own the place and sleep at least once in every room throughout the day and I love toys, to which many a lovely Guest brings me and I use my cushion like a proper pillow.
I always jump for joy like a lamb whenever “Mum “and “Dad” come home or when I see them first thing on a morning and I always make them laugh. I love my 3pm zoomies and my walks to the beach and have made lots of friends including Prince Reginald of The Ravine and have lots of lovely Aunties like Auntie Sharon, Auntie Julie and Auntie Berni, who I just adore. There has been many a time a toddler pointed at me and loudly declare “Horse!”

Now I spend my retirement by the sea and although ive ran many races, my greatest journey is the one that brought me here, I thought that would be it after the racing stopped, but it seems it was just the beginning.

Two of our Lovely Guests having a Great Time aboard the Becca-Marie Sealife Safari. Whenever you are staying in Scarborough a Trip on the Becca-Marie Sealife Safari is a MUST!

There is something about The Sea, it takes me away from all the stresses and strains of life. It’s got the power of calmness, the Sea reminds us your alive.

I always find when your in or near the Sea, your shoulders drop, your eyes and face soften. We start breathing more slowly. Absolute Bliss and cannot wait to get back into the Sea.

Highly Recommend Becca-Marie Sealife Safari

At certain times in your life, many of us will have dreamed of leaving the rat race to go and run a B & B, donning the chef blacks, rustling up perfectly poached eggs for smiling guests, and the only commute being to the next room, well we only went and did it.

With a head full of dreams and “what ifs” and a heart full of desire we decided to take the plunge and move to the Seaside. We had so many ideas, plans and so many dreams and if we are totally honest, there were times when we wondered whether our friends and family would fully understand what the hell we were doing.

But as everybody knows me and Debs have always been energetic and slightly quirky, the creative souls with a thousand ideas before breakfast, dreamers who always felt it was important to follow your dreams and trust in the journey.

Running a B&B can be hard work but it has provided us with our dream lifestyle. A typical day starts at 6am, prepping and making all the array of breakfasts, then it's bed-making, cleaning, gardening, maintenance and preparing fresh Bread, Home-Made Jams & Curds and Debbie’s Home-Baking. There are days when it’s full on and the phone is ringing off the hook, but the great thing is that we are making all our own decisions about running the place; we have our independence.

It can be as relentless as running a marathon, but we are both dedicated to it, we enjoy what we do and get great satisfaction when people come back regularly. It's not necessarily been a slower pace of life for us, but it’s rewarding making guests feel comfortable.

Looking back now, we both feel incredibly proud of what we have achieved, and 7 years on we are still going strong and never looked back.
