Many of our guests are surprised to discover that, although the lodges enjoy a beautiful waterfront setting, there is no beach directly on the property. As a result, one of the questions I am asked most often is, “Where is the nearest beach?”

Fortunately, we are surrounded by some of the most spectacular beaches in the Highlands, from secluded coves and sheltered bays to breathtaking stretches of white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. To help you make the most of your stay, I’ve put together a list of nearby beaches, along with their approximate driving distances from the lodges.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful walk, a family day out, a spot for a picnic, or simply somewhere to soak up the stunning scenery, there is a beach to suit every taste. I hope you find this guide useful and that it inspires you to explore more of our beautiful coastline during your stay.

Scourie Beach 15 mins north - The nearest beach to the lodges. Sheltered bay with lovely views and coastal walks.

Clachtoll Beach 30 mins - Beautiful white sandy beach on the scenic Drumbeg Loop. Great for families and photography.

Clashnessie Beach 30 mins - Small, picturesque beach with stunning mountain backdrops and a nearby waterfall.

Achmelvich Beach 35 to 40 mins - One of the most famous beaches in Assynt, with turquoise water and white sand. Excellent for paddleboarding and swimming.

Vestey’s Beach 40 mins - A quieter hidden cove just beyond Achmelvich, often much less busy.

Oldshoremore Beach 40 mins north - Expansive white sands and one of the most spectacular beaches on the north-west coast.

Polin Beach 40 mins north - A peaceful, secluded beach just beyond Oldshoremore and a favourite of many locals.

Sandwood Bay 45 mins north + 4-mile walk from the car park. Frequently described as one of Britain's most beautiful beaches. Very remote and unspoilt.

Balnakeil Beach 50 mins north - Huge sandy beach near Durness with impressive dunes and spectacular sunsets.

Durness Beach (Sango Bay area) 50 mins north - Dramatic cliffs, sea stacks and excellent coastal scenery.

For guests looking for the best combination of scenery and accessibility, I would suggest:

1. Scourie Beach (closest)
2. Achmelvich Beach (most photogenic)
3. Oldshoremore & Polin (best wild beaches)
4. Sandwood Bay (most spectacular if they don't mind the walk)

These beaches are renowned for their white sand and surprisingly turquoise water, often drawing comparisons with much more tropical destinations.
