Highland hotel with rosette restaurant on the NorthWest coast of Sutherland, between the tiny villages of Kylesku and Scourie: Glorious Views, Good Food & Generous Hospitality. Eddrachilles Hotel, near Scourie, Sutherland, is a small, independent and owner operated Highland hotel focused exclusively on hospitality for its resident guests. Well-being, tranquility and seculsion in a lovely coastal setting, no wonder many of our guests return each year. A former traditional parish manse, Eddrachilles Hotel is about the midpoint of the North Coast 500 - Scotland's Route 66 - two miles south of Scourie on the A894 (or 40 miles north of Ullapool), overlooking Badcall Bay. With several acres of grounds leading to the shore, the hotel offers a homely coastal haven in the heart of the rugged moors and mountains. Our ensuite bedrooms are cosy and comfortably furnished while our lounge and conservatory with wood burning stoves offer plenty of space to relax, read or simply admire the spectacular view, perhaps with a drink from our well stocked Lounge bar. With our family heritage in the Highlands, owners Fiona and Richard delight in helping you to plan your time in this unique landscape at the heart of the North West Highlands and we have binoculars, maps and guide books for your use during your stay. When you arrive back at the hotel we'll serve teas and coffees in the lounge free of charge and there are cakes and cream scones with our compliments 4-5pm each day. Our chefs provide mouth-watering menus prepared from local fresh ingredients using both classic and contemporary culinary skills. Owners, Richard and Fiona Trevor, look forward to welcoming you to their home.

Some of the finest baking in the Highlands begins in a home kitchen.

For National Baking Week, a salute to the many wonderful bakers whose work is part of the pleasure of living here and travelling through: the home bakers, café teams, crofters, tearoom owners, fundraiser stalwarts and neighbours who arrive with a tin.

There is real skill in a light scone, a well-made bannock, a crisp piece of shortbread or a fruit cake whose recipe has been carefully kept—and generously shared.

Across the Highlands, baking brings people together. It fills village hall tables, raises money for good causes, welcomes newcomers and makes an ordinary afternoon feel like an occasion.

We’re proud of what comes out of our hotel kitchen, and equally glad to be part of a place with so many fine bakers.

Who makes the baking you always hope will be on the table? Give them a mention below. 🍰

Wind-tousled hair, sandy paws, and quite an appetite after a blustery walk on Polin beach.

Back to Eddrachilles for a change of shoes, a comfortable seat, and tea with something home-baked. A very satisfactory way to spend the next part of your afternoon.

Our welcome extends beyond the day you arrive: complimentary tea, coffee and home baking await our staying guests every afternoon from 4–5pm.

One more reason to stay a little longer. 🐾

Sometimes it’s not just about the coast.

Turn inland and Sutherland has another world to show you: mountains appearing through drifting cloud, long glens, and lochs holding almost perfect reflections.

One of the pleasures of spending a few days at Eddrachilles is having time for both. A coastal day, an inland day, and room to change your plans when the weather reveals something irresistible.

Then back to Badcall Bay for dinner, and a little discussion about where tomorrow might take you.

Last night, northern lights between the showers. This evening, soft light and still water on Badcall Bay.

Two very different October evenings, both from Eddrachilles on the north west corner of the Scottish mainland.

Northern Lights tonight between the showers this evening. Winter is coming!

We like to say thank you and well done to our brilliant team who managed to serve a 3 course dinner menu at 8pm for our guests on Tuesday night despite the loss of electricity just after 4pm. Trevor cooked with a headlamp and a temporary stove, Emma and Sam kept service going in unusual circumstances.

Moreover we would like to thank our lovely guests for their patience and willingness to enter into a wee Highland adventure as the light outside faded and we got a sense of how it might have been in the original manse 200 years ago. Although back then the minister would have been working in his study where Richard was keeping the bar open.

And finally our thanks to the crews from SSE who not only restored our power just before 8pm but were back shortly after 10pm when our branch line failed again. We know they worked into the small hours to make sure the problem was fully addressed.

Today the tiny villages of Kylesku and Scourie stand out more clearly on the map than Badcall. But there was a time before reliable roads when Badcall was the official destination, the place named in the timetable where many travellers arrived on the steamer.

This 19th century timetable lists a weekly schedule from Glasgow with an afternoon arrival on Wednesday before departing for Stornoway (request stop to the north at Inshegra could also be made). Pony and cart might take visitors onwards to Scourie while the white-painted manse stood above the bay welcoming them all ashore and watching every departure.

In the 21st century you will find Eddrachilles Hotel at Badcall Bay, the former manse is now sympathetically extended. Our driveway joins the A894, the Notth Coast 500, if you wish to arrive by car and we also have a guest mooring in the bay if you still prefer to sail.

Spectacular views towards Assynt, stone walls infused with memories, stories ready to be told.

A moment of balance 🌙

Today, 23 September, marks the autumn equinox here at Badcall Bay, as we turn towards the quieter, darker months of the Highland year.

But did you know that the day when daylight and darkness are closest to equal is actually a little later?

Here at Badcall, our equilux falls on Friday 25 September, when sunrise and sunset are both at 7.11.

For now, we’re enjoying these beautiful moonlit evenings over the bay, watching the light change and the seasons turn.

Autumn in the Highlands has a magic all of its own. 🍂
