Eddrachilles Hotel by Scourie Highland hotel on the NorthWest coast of Sutherland: Glorious Views, Good Food & Generous Hospitality
(1)

Eddrachilles Hotel, near Scourie, Sutherland, is a small, independent and owner operated Highland hotel focused exclusively on hospitality for its resident guests. Well-being, tranquility and seculsion in a lovely coastal setting, no wonder many of our guests return each year. A former traditional parish manse, Eddrachilles Hotel is about the midpoint of the North Coast 500 - Scotland's Route 66 -

two miles south of Scourie on the A894 (or 40 miles north of Ullapool), overlooking Badcall Bay. With several acres of grounds leading to the shore, the hotel offers a homely coastal haven in the heart of the rugged moors and mountains. Our ensuite bedrooms are cosy and comfortably furnished while our lounge and conservatory with wood burning stoves offer plenty of space to relax, read or simply admire the spectacular view, perhaps with a drink from our well stocked Lounge bar. With our family heritage in the Highlands, owners Fiona and Richard delight in helping you to plan your time in this unique landscape at the heart of the North West Highlands and we have binoculars, maps and guide books for your use during your stay. When you arrive back at the hotel we'll serve teas and coffees in the lounge free of charge and there are cakes and cream scones with our compliments 4-5pm each day. Our chefs provide mouth-watering menus prepared from local fresh ingredients using both classic and contemporary culinary skills. We happily cater for allergies, restricted and lifestyle choice diets (please let us know when booking). Owners, Richard and Fiona Trevor, look forward to welcoming you to their home.

Meet Loki. Our latest team member.

Ten weeks old. Gordon Setter. Currently in possession of many chew toys for his “shark” teeth, two ears growing considerably faster than his head, and an unconditional belief in his own importance.

He has been appointed Apprentice Doggie Concierge at Eddrachilles, a role he is approaching with the gravitas it deserves. Poppy thinks he has a lot to learn.

Gordon Setters were bred in the Scottish Highlands in the early 19th century by the fourth Duke of Gordon — dogs built for this landscape, this weather, and this terrain. Loki considers this his natural inheritance.

He will be meeting guest dogs properly once his vaccinations are complete — professional standards must be maintained, even at ten weeks. In the meantime, he is mostly observing from a distance, occasionally from the hotel office, and forming opinions. Some of which he shares at volume.

Our BowWOW! dog guest photography competition closes end of June. Entries still welcome.

❤️The comments in our guest book are the words written on our hospitality hearts.

Pen to paper, the traditional way, no grand standing on a digital platform, no “me too, I’ve been there” credentials, just sincere and thoughtful comments, often captured in the moments before departure.

Thank you to our lovely guests. You are the reason we do this and your kindness means everything.

Beautiful Wilma showing everyone how to pose for the 2026 Eddrachilles Hotel Dog Show. We’re inviting all our beloved canine guests staying with us in 2026 to submit a photo of themselves at Eddrachilles (or we’ll help take one for you). There will be two judging dates this season and a prize for the most photogenic pooch in each. It will be a tough decision!

Please note that our own dogs are not allowed to enter. However, dogs accompanying external guests to The Glebe Kitchen restaurant for dinner are eligible.

Thank you, Wilma for your superb entry and for coming to NW Sutherland. We hope to welcome you back one day and until then we wish you happy trails and wagging tails!

Friday evening’s guest appearance below the hotel on the shore.

One of the quiet privileges of living here is that encounters like this still feel magical every single time.

Otters are never guaranteed — which is precisely why people treasure seeing them. Sometimes all you notice is movement in the kelp. Sometimes you are lucky enough to be watched back.

Disco Deer.🦌 🦌🦌🦌

🐌In more suburban locations, gardeners are sometimes known to throw snails over the fence into a neighbour’s garden. In the Highlands we have an equivalent - deer.

🐕🐕‍🦺🐩For the past nine years the presence of our loud Gordon Setter had been a sufficient deterrent to keep any deer from our grounds. Sadly he passed sway in February.

🌺🌺🌷The deer reappraised and expanded their grazing.Nearly one thousand tulips in our grounds disappeared between the last snow and the first blooms. Next they came for the hostas. Nighttime patrols by the owners have so far preserved the azaleas (but not woken our guests). However, there is a limit to how many times Fiona or Richard want to repeat their torch waving 3am round ups.

There seems to be a single entry point. So Richard has been busy rigging up temporary fencing with LED lights and acoustic deterrents in that area. Whether it works, we will see. Disco nights for stags may be a new feature at Eddrachilles. 💃🕺

All along the shoreline at Badcall Bay and beyond these lovely pink Thrift flowers are appearing.

Takes me back instantly to holidays on the west coast and islands in my childhood, a defining marker that I was away from the moors and mountains of the central highlands. Sometimes it’s the small things that truly matter.
