The Wasdale Head Inn

The Wasdale Head Inn The Home of British Climbing
(1133)

Welcome to the world-famous Wasdale Head Inn - the birthplace of climbing - dramatically surrounded by England's tallest mountains, making it the finest base for walking and climbing. The Inn is situated at the head of remote and unspoiled Wasdale, and if you are seeking the superlative this is where you will find it. England's highest mountain, the deepest lake, the smallest Church, and the original world's biggest liar can all be found in this tranquil corner of the Lake District.

On Wednesday 3 June we may experience a short power cut during the day. Our hotel and bar will be open as normal (yes, you can still get a pint at the bottom of Scafell Pike!) and as always we’ll do our best to minimise any disruption.

Many thanks to WMRT Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team for dealing with this incident in their usual professional manner, and to our staff who stayed up to look after the starving and frozen walkers when they were brought in around 2am. Luckily this is the first time in living memory (45 years or more) that those rescued have behaved like this, however the messages of support and donations for the team from so many people more than make up for this one selfish episode.
