we had a visit from Cockermouth MRT on Friday night after an injury took place on Black Sail Pass. We are so grateful for all the amazing work they do in the valleys! We were also lucky enough to be on route of the Lakeland 100 mile race!!!

the race started in Coniston and by the time the 800 runners got to Black Sail, they had already completed roughly 22 miles. They ran down black sail pass, straight past the hostel and onto scarth gap to go to their next checkpoint in Buttermere. It was absolutely amazing to watch!

Hello! we are in the midst of a busy month at YHA Black Sail, and have a menu change to announce! On Tuesday and Friday we will no longer be serving sausage, mash, peas and gravy. Instead, we are serving a delicious chilli con carne or three bean chilli with tortilla chips and rice.

As usual we serve warm chocolate brownies and belgium waffles for dessert, with whipped cream or vegan ice cream🍨

Take a look inside and outside of the hostel!

We have three bedrooms, all named after nearby peaks; Great Gable (8 beds) Kirk Fell (4 beds), and Haystacks (4 beds). They are all available for full private hire, or to purchase one bed in the room (and many of our reviews mention how comfortable the beds are!).

There are two bathrooms and one shower within YHA Black Sail. We also have a fully equipped self catering kitchen with a fridge, gas hob, oven and plenty of pots and pans for you to use if you didn’t fancy one of our freshly cooked evening meals, available at 7pm every night. 🍛

Finally, if you weren’t aware already, Black Sail is directly on the coast to coast path. The 190 mile route from St Bees to Robin hood’s bay created by Alfred Wainwright. If you’re looking for a place to stop by on your coast to coast journey, both YHA Ennerdale (21.5 miles in) and YHA Black Sail (roughly 24 miles in) are great checkpoints.
