At Well Cottage, dinner isn’t simply a meal. It’s part of the experience.

Welcome to our Garden Room - the beautiful private dining space where so many memorable moments at English Cottage Vacation are shared.

With its high ceilings, elegant country style and French doors opening directly onto the cottage gardens, the room feels wonderfully connected to the Dorset countryside.

On warm days, we can open the doors and let the fresh country air drift inside. On cooler evenings, they’re closed and the Garden Room becomes a cosy, intimate setting for dinner.

And then there’s the table…

Each evening, Laura creates a different table setting especially for our guests, thoughtfully choosing the details so that sitting down to dinner feels like a special occasion in itself.

It might be elegant and traditional one evening, colourful and seasonal the next - another little surprise waiting for you when you return from your day exploring England.

And just through the adjoining kitchen, Laura will be preparing your personally tailored dinner.

No restaurant reservations.

No deciding where to drive.

No waiting for a table.

Simply freshen up, wander downstairs and take your seat while everything is prepared and served for you.

What can you expect from Laura’s cottage kitchen?

Quite simply… whatever your heart desires.

Dining at Well Cottage isn’t about choosing from a set menu. It’s a completely personal experience, with every breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and dessert planned around you.

Before you even arrive, Laura takes the time to learn about your favourite foods, dietary requirements, preferences and, just as importantly, the things you’d rather not see on your plate.

Then she creates your menus especially for your stay.

Perhaps you’ve been dreaming of traditional English favourites prepared just the way you like them. Maybe you love discovering new flavours and would prefer Laura to surprise you with dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world.

Or perhaps there’s something you’ve been craving and would simply love to enjoy beside the fire at an English country cottage.

This is your private dining experience, so your menu is your own.

Everything is freshly prepared in Laura’s cottage kitchen, with enormous care given to both flavour and presentation.

During the growing season, ingredients may come straight from our own vegetable and herb garden at Well Cottage, while other produce is carefully sourced from local farmers and producers wherever possible.

And after a wonderful day exploring England with Nathan, there’s something rather special about returning to the cottage knowing dinner is already being prepared for you.

No restaurant reservations to make.

No shopping.

No cooking.

It’s the little details that make Well Cottage feel like home.

Before our guests arrive, Laura carefully prepares the cottage for their stay — and one of her favourite finishing touches is arranging fresh flowers for the bedrooms and throughout the cottage.

Rather than simply placing a bouquet on a table, Laura creates each arrangement herself, choosing flowers to complement the season, the room and the character of our 18th-century cottage.

A little posy beside the bed. Fresh blooms welcoming you into your bedroom. A beautiful arrangement on the dining table ready for your first evening together.

You’ll find thoughtful touches like these throughout Well Cottage.

Because when we say your stay is personally hosted by us, we really do mean personally.

From the flowers in your bedroom to the meals on your plate, so much of what you experience has been prepared, arranged or created by Nathan and Laura especially for your stay.

There’s no large team working behind the scenes.

The gardens at Well Cottage are more than somewhere beautiful to sit.

Surrounded by the peaceful Dorset countryside, they’re an extension of life at the cottage - somewhere to enjoy a morning coffee, listen to the birds, relax after a day of exploring or simply sit quietly and appreciate being in England.

But tucked amongst the flowers and greenery, you’ll also find something very important to Laura…

Our vegetable and herb garden.

Throughout the growing season, Laura harvests fresh herbs, vegetables and other home-grown ingredients to use in the dishes she prepares for our guests.

There’s something rather special about watching an ingredient travel just a few steps from the garden to the kitchen - perhaps fresh herbs scattered over dinner, vegetables accompanying an evening meal or something picked that morning inspiring what appears on your plate later that day.

What we can’t grow ourselves, we love to source locally wherever possible, making the food at Well Cottage another way for you to experience this beautiful part of England.

And when Laura isn’t harvesting something for dinner?

You might find us pottering amongst the plants, enjoying the changing seasons or simply appreciating the view.

It’s all part of life at Well Cottage.
