Save our local Hurst in Shanklin. We all need to keep shopping in our more independent shops to stop them from closing. They generally stock everything you need from hardware, houseware, gardening, electrical's, plus much more and offer delivery or click and collect. Let's make it another 25 years.
W Hurst & Son Ltd - Shanklin Branch
Today, Hana Johnson the vice president of the Shanklin Hotel & Accommodation Association and Michael Beston had a very positive meeting with Jevon Kennedy the MD for Hurst & Son across the Island and his staff to discuss how we and the local community can help and promote the Hurst store in Regent Street.
The company announced only last month it was considering closing its Ventnor and Freshwater branches, while identifying the Shanklin branch as being at future risk of closure. However, following a consultation period, the company decided that the Freshwater branch will remain open — for now.
There will be a thorough review in January next year, aligned to the implementation of further cost savings, through adjustments to opening hours and staffing levels.
The review period for the Shanklin branch, previously identified as being at risk of closure, has also been extended, with its status to also be reassessed in January 2026.
Please use our Hurst store in Shanklin to increase the footfall to help secure its future.
