We have a vacancy for..

a Kitchen, Bar and Housekeeping assistant (s) at our busy Lake District bed & breakfast.

It is a seasonal position that starts in mid-April. We look after walkers on the Coast to Coast Walk which is now a National Trail.

Shifts include breakfast shift, housekeeping and evening dinner service. Majority of hours are mid week with minimal at weekends. We would be happy to consider a person for the full role but also happy to split hours for people to suit.

Approximately 25 hours a week
Competitive rate of pay
Live-in accommodation could be available for the right candidate.

Our little bar, the Staggering Wanderer, has welcomed many a guests this year. From coast-to-coast walkers and Mountain Leader trainees to holidaymakers who’ve found friendship over a pint. We’re closing for the season for bed and breakfast and bar service from today but the Lodge remains open until March with kitchen access and logs ready for the wood burner for midweek stays. Our 18th season over and out.

Suppose to be a work chat with the boss however we only discussed which she’s running the Dales Traverse this year, which I did last year, Laverado which were both doing in June and if I’d have the abilities to hit refresh enough times before I get banished to the waiting list again for the . Thankfully I’m slightly more computer savvy this year!

We’ve been away for a couple of days and just getting back to answering emails and enquires from this last week. If you’re waiting on a response, it’s coming today, promise.

We’ve not been sunning ourselves or having a relaxing holiday after a busy season, no, bit of the opposite. Scott’s been on a rather long run called Centurion Running WinterDowns 200miler while I spent 2 nights chasing him along the North Downs, South Downs, Van Gaurdway and Wayfarers Way. Lots of fun had by those on and off the trails.

The lesser trodden Piot Crag between Small water and Blea Water under Mardale Ill Bell was a beauty to run down this afternoon. The ground is dry (in November, whaaaat), with only a handful of cars at the end of Haweswater leaving the sun kissed hills for only a few to enjoy. 😊 Can recommend.

We’ve been a little lacking on socials this year, something to do with having a toddle and a year one who started primary school last week and partly to do with both and I enjoying getting out into the fells.

I can’t promise we will be in here any more than recent, what we can promise is it’s been a pleasure to host so many lovely people so far in the 2024 season and may that continue going forward.

Looking for a new walking route? How about the Eamont Way, a 5.5 mile walking route from Penrith Railway Station to Pooley Bridge Steamer Pier.

The route follows the course of the river Eamont, crossing it twice. It starts with a series of signed pedestrian crossings from the railway station to the edge of the town, then follows a series of signed footpaths, bridleways and ‘permitted paths’ to exit at ‘The Sun Inn’ in Pooley Bridge. From there it is less than 1/2 mile to the pier for the Ullswater Steamers where onward lake travel to Howtown and Glenridding is on offer and onward from Glenridding to Aira Force.

You could get the bus back into Penrith for just £2 single fare!
