There’s another reason to plan a stay in Sherborne.
Sherborne has officially been named Dorset Town of Culture 2027, recognising the creativity, heritage and cultural energy that makes our historic town such a special place to visit.
At the heart of that growing cultural scene is The Sherborne, the beautifully restored Georgian house bringing together contemporary art, heritage, gardens, food and events - with free admission.
And from 7 September, there is something remarkable to see.
Thirteen monumental figures by acclaimed British-Trinidadian artist Zak Ové will take their place in The Sherborne’s gardens as part of The Invisible Man and the Masque of Blackness. The striking installation will remain for an entire year, changing with the seasons and forming part of Sherborne’s Town of Culture celebrations in 2027.
It is an exciting time to rediscover Sherborne. Explore the galleries, wander through the historic town, visit the Abbey, enjoy its independent shops and then retreat to Hillbrook for the night.
