Some interesting trivia about Sheringham:

🟦 It was the first place in the UK to have bombs dropped on it from Zeppelins during the First World War. Thankfully nobody was hurt.

🟦 Europe's longest chalk reef runs along the coast and is believed to be the longest in the world, stretching more than 20 miles and creating habitat for the sweet Cromer Crab. Also gives the sea the lovely turquoise colour.

🟦 Over 400 species of flowering plants, including 14 varieties of British orchids grow on Beeston/Sheringham Common, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (and just across the road from Woodforde's Cottage.)

🟦 Beeston Bump, which can be seen from Woodforde's Cottage is a striking 63m high grassy hill, formed by glacial deposits at the end of the last ice age.

🟦 The name Sheringham has Viking roots meaning 'The Ham of Scira's people', likely named after a Viking War Lord who settled in the area around 900AD which is celebrated in the winter in Sheringham with an annual Viking Festival and the ritual burning of the boat in the beach.

Lovely couple of days at Woodforde's Cottage between guests, doing a few jobs and enjoying the sunshine at the carnival, beach and duck race which runs down the beck just outside Woodforde's Cottage. Excited to be planning new flooring for downstairs and on stairs and landing! 😍

Another last minute cancellation at Woodforde's. Time to get packing for a lovely break, June 17th-22nd.
Sleeps 4 and situated in a peaceful position on Beeston Common. We personally love that you can walk to town and the beach along the little stream that runs past the cottage, listening to the sparrows in the shrubs and gardens.
