Thank you to everyone who nominated a charity on our socials or via email. We had a great response and we're sorry that we couldn't quiz in support of all of them.

We look forward to welcoming our quiz teams for the first quiz of the season on Sunday 11th October, when we will be fundraising for RABI, which provides practical, financial and emotional support to farming people across England and Wales.

Our first creative workshop in conjunction with Creative craft workshops in our Cotswold studio or in your venue went very well yesterday evening. Our lovely attendees were guided through the process of making scented candles, while enjoying drinks, snacks and a bit of signature Larkswold banter from Melinda and Emma.

If you'd like to see The Red Lion's games room transformed into a block printing workshop for our next craft evening (between 7 and 8.30pm on Wednesday 16th September), just get in touch to secure your spot. It's £45, including a welcome drink, snacks and prosecco. Guests will be able to block print a tea towel or a tote bag 😁. We look forward to seeing you then!

🐾 Meet Frank the 9 year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback 🐾

Despite having a resting sad face, Frank is actually a very content dog, especially when there is a piece of cheese under his nose 🧀.

Frank's lives in Dorset and his favourite thing in life is his mum 🥰. He will follow her everywhere, including on her visit to the Cotswolds to stay at The Red Lion. He was very happy stay here, especially when his mum treated him to a sausage from our Dog Menu. New places don't faze Frank at all, as he has travelled to France and Spain with his mum several times now.

Although he looks like the canine equivalent of a bouncer, Frank is an extremely gentle dog. He loves all his toys and looks after them with great care. He has a pheasant toy that he has been looking after since he was a pup and he proudly parades it and his other favourites round the house visitors come round.

Frank's mum feels very lucky to have him in her life, especially given the huge scare they had when he was five and it was discovered that he had a 3kg tumour on his spleen. Frank hasn't let this get in the way of doing the things he loves and he embraces life with all four paws. We loved having him to stay and we are definitely going to try and be more Frank in our everyday lives 😁.

It's today so we want to send our love to everyone who is remembering a much-loved dog who is no longer with us.

It seems like a good time to share this lovely picture of two doggos who have been super important to The Red Lion team. Cocoa the Chocolate Lab was Lisa and Sarah's original pub dog and created the big pawprints for Bella to fill, and Coco the Yorkie, was the former canine sidekick to our Deputy Manager, Lesca.

Dog people are a curious breed. We throw ourselves into loving creatures with a much shorter lifespan than our own, committing to being heartbroken on a regular basis, in exchange for the joy they bring to our lives.

Knowing that they are with us for a relatively short time is an important reminder to make the most of the moments you share and to try and learn a thing or two from them about appreciating the simple pleasure of life, such as a roaring fire, a delicious meal and a good cuddle 🐾 🥰.

We can't believe it's nearly that time again!

The 2026-7 quiz season kicks off again on Sunday 11th October and we are looking for ten different charities or local good causes to support this time around.

If there is a charitable organisation that is close to your heart, either DM this account or email info@redlion-longcompton to nominate them as a beneficiary for one of this season's quizzes. We usually raise well over £300 per quiz (with the top total being £665 last season), so it's worth getting your favourite charity into the mix.

We will announce the full list of quiz dates and the causes that they will support on Saturday 5th September, which also happens to be .

We just wanted to remind everyone planning on coming to The Red Lion with kids over the next couple of weeks that our summer holiday colouring and drawing competition is open until the end of dinner service on Wednesday 2nd September.
Children aged 5 and under can colour in a picture of Bella the pub dog and those aged 6 and over can draw her instead.

Local artist, Melanie Charles - Artist, has the difficult job of judging the competition and the winners will each get a Baby Bella cuddly toy, complete with custom collar and tag made by Cotswold Hipster .

Colouring and drawing sheets are available from The Red Lion bar, just ask if you can have one when you visit. If your child would rather use their own art supplies, you are welcome to take the entry sheet home to complete there - all you need to do is take a picture of the completed artwork and tag The Red Lion, Long Compton on either Facebook or Instagram when you post it.

🐾 Meet Dotty, the 1 year-old Black Labrador 🐾

Dotty belongs to Mia from The Red Lion front of house team. Like Mia, she spends quite a lot of time at the pub. Unlike Mia, she doesn't even get paid to be here 😁.

Mia's dad has always been keen to ensure that Dotty is super chilled in pubs, so is always happy to pop her lead on and bring her into The Red Lion for some essential "socialisation training".

Aside from hanging out in her local, Dotty loves swimming, chewing things and enhancing the sophistication of her palette by eating anything and everything. Her party trick is the 'trust fall', where she turns her back on you and then falls back, assuming you will catch her 🥰.

Dotty lives up to her name and is absolutely bonkers. She loves people and cuddles, unless those people happen to be doing the hoovering whilst wearing hi-vis, in which case she will politely wait until you've finished and got changed before greeting you 🤣.

We are delighted to have Dotty in our pack of canine regulars and look forward to seeing her and her dad at The Red Lion bar again soon 🖤.

If you are coming to The Red Lion for lunch on Sunday from the Shipston direction, please be aware that the Lloyd’s Tour of Britain Women final stage is going through Shipston at approximately 1pm that day.

There will be rolling road closures along the route, typically lasting around 15 minutes. Traffic travelling in either direction on Church Street or Stratford Road in Shipston will be affected.

We recommend leaving a bit of extra time if you are coming to Long Compton from that direction on Sunday 23rd.
