The building was one of the first regency houses to be constructed on the Sidmouth seafront in 1775 and was originally the Wallis’ Marine Library. It is now owned by us, the Pyne family, who took it on in 1990 and are third generation farmers from Budleigh Salterton, just a stones throw away from the hotel. So, pack your bags and step into a the ultimate getaway where beauty, nature, and elegance are right on your doorstep. An enchanting combination of regency elegance and modern-day comforts greets you from the moment you step inside. Spend your stay nestled under heavy duvets and watching the rolling waves beneath a sunrise. Explore secret coastal coves on walks down Jurassic coast or amble around Bicton Botanical gardens, before kicking off your walking boots, and relaxing with local Devon cream tea in one of our dining areas. Our sea view lounge bar is open for coffee, toasted teacakes, and dinner for all guests, so you don’t have to travel far for delicious, local cuisine. So, please bring your furry friend on holiday with you and we will treat them to a fluffy dog blanket and scrumptious treats on arrival. There are plenty of dog friendly beaches during the summer and many cafés in town love our four-legged friends as much as we do. A little piece of Bedford history… ❤️

A huge thank you to Valerie for sending us this wonderful Bedford Hotel brochure, dating all the way back to 1952.

It was kept by her parents after they stayed with us on their honeymoon and has been treasured ever since. We absolutely love seeing little pieces of the hotel’s history like this - particularly the tariff, from a time when a stay at the Bedford was still priced in guineas!

So much may have changed over the years, but we like to think the magic of a stay by the sea in Sidmouth remains very much the same. 🌊

What a week we had… The 72nd Sidmouth Folk Festival really was brilliant! 🎻❤️

Last week, Sidmouth came alive with music, song and dance, with the streets buzzing from morning until night. There’s something so special about seeing this much-loved tradition continue year after year, bringing generations together and creating an atmosphere quite unlike anything else.

We loved every minute of it and are already looking forward to next year!
