Every August Bank Holiday since I can remember I've been attending Hebden Sports. I am not going to tell you my age! 🤣 The event started life as Hebden Feast in the early 19th century.

These days a lovely bunch of volunteers put up the tents, arrange the speakers and microphones, become stewards for the Fell race, look after all the games. My particular favourite game is Knockdown Ginger! I always remember this game being played with my mum. She gave me lots of motivation.

The children and adults take part in the races such as a potato relay, junior flat races, Egg and spoon race, back to back race, senior races and many more.

I started out as a junior racer and had a proud moment coming first one year winning 50p! I was thrilled. These days I avoid any races but my kids raced as children and I'm sure my grandchild will too ❤️

Sometimes we have celebs attend too. Chris Mason BBC political editor and soap stars such as Emmerdales Cain Di**le ( Jeff Hordley)and Zoe Henry from EastEnders and Coronation Street have been spotted enjoying the bank holiday fun.

I love that I pass this tradition to my family and have also had guests come and join us at the sports too.

Happy National Dog Day from Heavenly Hebden!

Today we’re celebrating one very special four legged star… Dora, who plays Trikiwoo in All Creatures Great and Small.

Here she is on set in Heavenly Hebden, getting ready for her scene in Series 7, with the wonderful Jill Clark from First Choice Animals helping Dora prepare for her moment in front of the cameras.

It’s always fascinating to see what goes on behind the scenes, and Dora certainly looks like she knows exactly what’s expected of her!

At Moorside Farm Holiday Cottage, we love seeing the Yorkshire Dales brought to life on screen, especially when there are dogs involved.

Happy National Dog Day, Dora. We’ll be watching out for you! 🐶

Sometimes ....

A few days where there’s room for everyone to be together, but also space to disappear with a good book, enjoy a quiet morning or simply sit and take in the view.

At Moorside Farm Holiday Cottage, our family friendly spaces are made for exactly that.

Gather around the dining table for meals and games. Step outside to enjoy the Yorkshire Dales together. Find a quiet corner on the mezzanine. Or simply sit back and watch the hills change with the light.

With beautiful views, peaceful spaces and walks straight from the door, it’s the kind of break where everyone can enjoy the Dales in their own way.

If you’ve been thinking about a last minute escape, perhaps this is your sign.

Our last short break is available for the summer holidays over bank holiday weekend.

🎬 June 2023 in Grassington, filmed by Moorside Farm Holiday Cottage

If you’re an All Creatures Great and Small fan, you’ll know that watching the finished episode is only part of the story…

The 2023 Christmas Special, “On a Wing and a Prayer”, is Episode 7 of Series 4 and originally aired on Channel 5 on 21 December 2023.

But what you see on screen is very different from what you experience when you actually watch the filming happening in Grassington. Moorside Farm Holiday Cottage has been following the filming of All Creatures Great and Small since October 2019, and incredibly, we’re still watching the filming now in 2026!

Here we have Siegfried Farnon, played by Sam West, and Richard Carmody, played by James Anthony-Rose, leaving the outside of Skeldale House carrying a goose and Christmas treats as they head towards the Drovers to celebrate Christmas Day with family and friends.
Meanwhile, Helen is in labour with heavenly Hebden's Jimmy.

The next two clips are taken from the finished TV episode as it aired on Channel 5. Notice how much quicker the scene is on television? That’s because what you see on screen has been carefully edited. When you’re actually in Grassington watching the filming, a scene can be performed many, many times. There are:
Rehearsals
Camera rehearsals
Different angles
Changes in position
Then the actual filming.

Sometimes you can watch the same moment happening again and again, from a completely different perspective, before eventually seeing a few seconds of it appear in the finished programme.

📍 Stay in the Yorkshire Dales. Walk in the footsteps of the cast. Discover the filming locations. And see where the magic happened. We can help you discover ACGAS magic.

If you’d like to stay at Moorside Farm Holiday Cottage and explore All Creatures Great and Small country for yourself, get in touch or use the link in our bio to check availability.

If you repost this reel, please tag Moorside Farm Holiday Cottage. We’ve filmed this footage ourselves, so please don’t download our reel and repost it as your own. ❤️

When did you last send a postcard? 5, 20, 30 years ago? We'd love to bring back this lovely tradition.

When you stay with us, why not pick up a postcard from us at Moorside Farm Holiday Cottage, sit in our garden at the picnic table and write home about the lovely things you’ve seen and done!

We love this postcard that was written by a child in 1994! We found this perfect example from the past in a charity shop recently. Isn't it lovely to see?
