🟣 COULD YOU GIVE US 4 WEEKS? 🟣

We’re looking for some new faces to join the volunteer team at 5th Canvey Island Air Scout Group — and we’d love to challenge you to give us just 4 weeks.

Not a lifetime commitment.
Not signing your Thursday evenings away forever.
Just four weeks to give Scouting a try.

Come along, meet the team, join in with a few activities and see what volunteering with Scouts is actually like.

You might help a Cub light their first fire 🔥
Watch a Squirrel achieve something they didn’t think they could do.
Get dragged into a ridiculous game you definitely weren’t planning on playing. 😂
Or simply go home knowing you’ve helped give local young people a brilliant evening.

And you don’t need any experience.

You don’t need to have been a Scout.
You don’t need to know how to tie 27 different knots.
You don’t need to be Bear Grylls.

We’ll help with all of that.

What we really need are ordinary people willing to give a little of their time.

Following a few changes to our volunteer team, we have opportunities across the Group, but we particularly need some new volunteers in Squirrels and Cubs right now.

Not sure about working directly with young people? We also have opportunities behind the scenes, including on our Board of Trustees.

🚨 We need Cub Leaders! 🚨

Could you spare 90 minutes on a Thursday evening to help give our Cubs some brilliant experiences?

You don’t need to be Bear Grylls, know how to light a fire with two sticks, or have any previous Scouting experience 😄

We’re looking for friendly, enthusiastic people to join our Cub team, have a laugh, get involved and help us give our young people adventures they’ll remember.

🐺 Cubs meet Thursdays, 6:00-7:30pm
📍 5th Canvey Island Air Scout Group

It’s incredibly rewarding, great fun and you might just find you get as much out of it as the Cubs do.

Give them adventures. Make some of your own.

George has chosen to raise money for Cancer Research UK, a charity that means a great deal to him and his family.

Do you remember your first Scout leader?

The first photo is one of my two children many years ago, making memories and friendships through Cubs. Looking back at it now makes me smile… and reminds me why we do what we do.

Fast forward to today, and the second photo shows some of our youngest members proudly receiving their Squirrel Awards. Different generation, same smiles, same adventures, same confidence growing week by week.

The only challenge? We need more amazing adults to help make these moments possible.

We’re currently looking for volunteers to join our Squirrel and Cub leadership teams. You don’t need any previous Scouting experience - just a willingness to have fun, encourage young people and be part of a fantastic team. Training and support are all provided.

A couple of hours a week could make a lifetime of difference to a child.

If you’ve ever thought, “I’d quite like to give that a go,” now is the perfect time.

🏕️ I might still be on Summer Camp, but apparently I’m already thinking about what’s next! 😂

One year ago, we held a Volunteer Info Meeting for people interested in getting involved with 5th Canvey - and from that evening we gained 3 amazing volunteers who are still with us, getting stuck in and (hopefully!) loving it! 💙

So, we’re going to do it again!

We’re looking to hold another informal Volunteer Info Meeting before the end of the summer break. No pressure and no commitment - just come along, have a cuppa, meet some of the team and find out what volunteering with Scouts is really like.

You don’t need any previous Scouting experience, and you certainly don’t have to be Bear Grylls! Whether you can help regularly or just lend a hand when you can, we’d love to hear from you.

🏅 Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service 🏅

A huge congratulations to five of our fantastic leaders who have been awarded the Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service by Castle Point District Lead Volunteer Lea., recognising the commitment, time and dedication they give to Scouting and our young people.

As Group Lead Volunteer, Hercules was incredibly proud to nominate these very well-deserved awards - especially to his wife, Cherry! ❤️

Gareth was particularly lucky to receive his after the number of wet sponges he’d thrown at Hercules while he was in the stocks earlier in the evening! 😂🧽💦 We’re pleased to confirm the award was still presented despite this serious lapse in judgement! 🤣

A massive thank you and congratulations to all five - thoroughly deserved! ⚜️👏

🎉 What a fantastic way to finish the term! 🎉

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our End of Term Family Fun Night and AGM on Thursday!

It was brilliant to see so many of our Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and their families together enjoying the evening. Our 20p Fair was great fun, and it was lovely to have the whole Group together before we break for the summer.

We also managed to squeeze in the slightly more serious business of our AGM! Thank you to everyone who gave us a few minutes of their attention and to our Trustees and volunteers who continue to work behind the scenes to keep the Group running and moving forward.

It’s been another fantastic year for 5th Canvey Island Air Scout Group, and we couldn’t do any of it without our amazing volunteers, the support of our families and, of course, our brilliant young people.

Have a fantastic summer everyone! ☀️⚜️
