We have three owl boxes up on the farm to encourage them to live and nest here with us, and be part of our wonderful ecosystem. They are checked a few times a year by a specialist, as part of a recording and monitoring scheme which keeps an eye on Barn Owl numbers.
Today, during the checks, we are absolutely delighted to have four chicks in one box. They are around a month and a half old and are almost ready to fledge. The chicks were gently checked over and a ring was placed on their leg, before being returned back into their snuggly nest.
Keep an eye out for them flying across the hedge lines in front of the CL, at dusk or listen for their shrill screeching sounds as they call to each other.
