There are new restrictions in place for South Tyneside as of tomorrow.

To summarise what these restrictions mean for our business:

- Residents and visitors to the area are only able to socialise with those from the same household or support bubble.

- Pubs and restaurants must close between the hours of 10pm and 5am.

- This means that for the time being we are unable to accept bookings for groups from separate households.

- We are still open for bookings for those from the same household or support bubble.

Well yesterday was quite an emotional day.

Our lovely South Shields beach apartment went on the market.

I bought it to live in when I I moved back to South Shields a few years back.

I used to love waking up to this every morning!

But now that my kids are older and they can choose where they spend their time they have decided they want to spend half of their time with me.

So I now live back in Aberdeen, where they are from.

This means that we cant be in our lovely, now second home as much as we’d like over the last year or two.

So Westoe Crown Village it has been a blast.

Myself and my kids absolutely LOVED loving there and will cherish the memories which we made in those 4 walls.

I hope that the new owners, whoever they are appreciate it as much as we did.

It’s a absolutely fantastic place to live.

The electronics struggle: I use it for business, more than I like to at the minute, but hate being glued to electronics.

It’s pretty well agreed that overall it’s not good for us as human beings and especially not good for our kids.

So whenever I get the chance to get out and about to escape the cyber world I do.

Especially when we are together.

Once the initial protests subside and we all reconnect with the our surroundings, whether it’s rural or urban, this is more often that not how we all feel.

This photo is of us heading up to Cleadon Hills overlooking Marsden Quarry.

I used to come here as a kid with mates, birdwatching, climbing the cliffs and trees, and generally just hanging out. It made me feel good. If it’s good for you, it’s good for your kids.

When is the last time you got out and about and if you need to encourage the younger members of your family, how do you manage it? And where was the last place in South Shields or nearby that you escaped to?

This was just over a year ago during our 3 week holiday to Shields.

A family day trip over the river, to Tynemouth then we cycled on to St Marys Lighthouse, Whitley Bay.

Just before my birthday. and just before I properly moved back to Aberdeen from my beloved South Shields.

Over the last 2-3 years I’d lived back in Shields, for the first time in 15 years, and set up a business here after losing my contract in oil and gas.

But more importantly I’d walked, cycled and sat on every square inch of this great coastline and river.

Often looking out to sea; wondering, remembering, smiling.

And missing.

But now they were older and could dictate who they spent their time with it was time to return back to my kids hometown.

I knew I was going to miss this great place.

I could tell they would to.

We come back to visit Shields regularly on our holidays from Aberdeen.

And we often don't leave the town, or even the coast. We have it all so why leave?

But Tynemouth is one place we all love to visit; a simple hop on the ferry and a short wander or cycle along the fish quay.

Their town might have loads more swanky shops and a couple of beaches that aren’t a patch on ours (sorry not sorry) but this is my favourite spot.

At the Lord Collingwood monument and looking back over to Shields. MY HOMETOWN.

And feeling PROUD.

Feb 2018! Beast from the East! South Shields coast in Siberian conditions!

Now into March 2/3/20, the Beast from the East day aftermath!

Scot of the Antarctic in the first one is loving the solitude of the beach. I always appreciate our coast but during this period I wouldn’t see a soul (no-one else daft enough to be out?) out for hours and hours and it was great!

The second and third photos are obviously looking north back along Sandhaven beach, towards the piers which must have taken some serious load testing over the last few days, protecting the River Tyne!

I hope you all get some better weather for the rest of this week especially with it being the last week fo the kids summer holidays.

Have a great Tuesday everyone.

And staty cosy! :)

Cheers.

A few more from the 28/2/20, the Beast from the East day aftermath!

Just when you thought that the photos couldn’t look any more Armageddon-like!

Photos 1 & 2 - looking south towards Trow Rocks with a huge black cloud and the poor Gulls even blacker.

Photo 3 - looking straight out into the North Sea. I felt like praying for any poor souls who still needed to be working out there. Like the offshore workers who I once worked alongside.

Photo 4 - looking towards the South Tyne Pier, showing yet another wave battering against it

Have a great Monday everyone.

And stay cosy! :)

Cheers.

Colin.
