I recently stayed at Saint Nicholas Hotel in Colchester. On arrival, you check in at The George Hotel before crossing the road to reach Saint Nicholas Hotel, which is a straightforward process.

The room itself was lovely—modern, spacious, and exceptionally clean. The bed was comfortable, and the overall presentation of the room was excellent.

However, the biggest downside was the temperature. Despite the warm weather outside, the room was extremely hot, reaching 26°C. An electric fan was provided, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to make the room comfortable, especially during the night. It’s a shame because everything else about the stay was very good.

With better temperature control or air conditioning, this would have been an even more enjoyable experience.

From the moment we stepped through the door, the staff were warm and attentive. Our room was spotless, with modern decor, a comfy bed, and views that made morning coffee feel like a little treat. The location was spot-on too – close to public transport and within walking distance of some of London’s best bits, which made exploring a breeze. The on-site bar had a great selection of drinks, and the breakfast spread was fresh and delicious – exactly what you need to fuel after attending a concert the night before.

Now, for the only bump in the road: when we arrived, their system was down, and they’d asked everyone to check in at 3pm. Unsurprisingly, that led to a pretty long queue snaking through the lobby. But here’s the thing – the staff handled it brilliantly.

All in all, Melia House is a fantastic pick for anyone visiting London. That check-in queue was just a small blip in an otherwise great experience – and sometimes, that’s all it takes to remind you that even when technology fails, good people make all the difference.

Arrived in London. Went to the nearest Resto we can find to have lunch. The place has good food but for £140 for 2 people I think the place is too pricey.

I came across this boutique hotel built in 1900 in central Thirsk, the Golden Fleece is a beautiful 4-star AA boutique hotel blending Edwardian charm with modern luxury. I stumbled upon this property and I am very much impressed. It holds Double AA Rosettes for dining – the restaurant has a very elegant atmosphere and pleasant staff – with stylish rooms and a perfect base for exploring North Yorkshire.

Review: Crowne Plaza East Midlands Airport by IHG

I was genuinely impressed by how immaculate the property is throughout — from the sleek lobby to my room and the restaurant, everything looked well-maintained and clean.

That said, there was a noticeable sewage smell in my room when I checked in. I initially thought it might be leftover from the previous guest, but it was still there when I returned from dinner, so I asked for a spray to help with it. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to move me to another room, which was a bit disappointing.

My dinner at Marco’s was also a letdown. Marco’s is known for its steak, but the one I ordered was incredibly chewy even though I’d asked for medium rare. The restaurant service was lacking too — staff weren’t attentive, and I had to wait and flag someone down just to get my bill.

The breakfast was even worse. It feels like some hospitality staff forget their job is about customer service, not just setting tables. When I walked in and asked for a table for one, a young lady told me to pick any table except one side (which was being set up for dinner) and then left me to fend for myself. At the buffet, there was no serving spoon for the mushrooms, so I waited for kitchen staff — when I asked, I was just told to use the same tongs as the tomatoes. I also had to track down a staff member who was busy setting up to ask for non-dairy milk (I couldn’t find it), and she seemed annoyed when I asked, just saying it was at the buffet. It was there, but hidden in a corner.

On the plus side, the reception staff were fantastic — very friendly and went out of their way to make things right by offering a complimentary breakfast. I declined since I’d already paid for mine, but the gesture was much appreciated.

Overall, it’s a well-kept hotel with great front desk staff, though the room smell, inability to switch rooms, and poor food and service at Marco’s and breakfast did significantly take away from the experience. Sometimes a nice property will not have return guests due to poor service.

A Sweet Stop at Paris Baguette in Scottsdale and picked up a chocolate cake and a few pastries—everything was absolutely delicious. The flavors had that rich, balanced European taste I love. It felt like a little café getaway right in the desert. Highly recommend if you’re craving something sweet and beautifully made.
