Gleneagles is a Grade 2 listed building built during the 1850's. It operated as a Hotel until 2001 but is now a guesthouse and local couple Garry and Penny have established this property as one of the leading guesthouses in Southend. A home-from-home.
The Guesthouse sits proudly in one of Southend’s most scenic and tranquil clifftop locations, overlooking the beautiful Cliff Gardens and enjoying panoramic views of the Thames Estuary and Southend’s vibrant seafront.
It is ideally located for business and leisure, just steps from the seafront, town centre and Cliffs Pavilion Theatre; it’s conveniently located in one of the town’s most historic areas and only 15 minutes from London Southend Airport.
Over recent years Gleneagles has undergone extensive improvement and many of the mid-Victorian design characteristics have been restored and Garry and Penny consistently receive high praise from visitors and excellent reviews for their standards of service, quality of accommodation and the friendly welcome they always extend. Born locally, Garry and Penny are fully committed to the sustainability of a local economy and committed to supporting local businesses, and wherever possible purchase all their supplies from Southend and surrounding areas.
Southend is home to the largest pleasure pier in the world and is a traditional Victorian seaside town, with many parts of town featuring its unique and sophisticated architecture from this era. To this day, it remains steeped in history and showcases some major cultural and family events throughout the year. From various festivals, music and art, to Southend’s traditional family carnival closing the Summer season, leading into the Winter solstice with fireworks from the pier head throughout October and November where you can see and have exclusive, uninterrupted views from the guesthouse to finishing each year with the Christmas Panto running throughout December and January.
“Arrived early but we were made very welcome and were able to leave our suitcase in our room before setting off to explore Southend in glorious sunshine. In the evening we were able to open wide the window of our second floor front room and enjoy the wonderful view across the estuary”
