A most pleasant two night stay at the Bowden Lodge. Arriving by train, it was a short walk mostly along Lord Street, bustling with its many shops/cafes/bars and long glass canopies, the shelter available unnecessary due to the nice weather. Bowden Lodge was immediately attractive and obviously very well looked after from the outside. I received a hugely warm and very sincere welcome from host Jane on arrival. The en-suite room had everything I could need, plentiful toiletries, accessories and a wonderful selection of quality teas, coffees, hot chocolate, along with the lovely touch of fresh milk in the minibar, alongside chargeable wine and beer. Spotlessly clean room and throughout, with everything in fine and fresh order. Lots to explore nearby, including a lovely, busy and reasonable dining pub, The Imperial, just around the corner - especially handy for the discount card supplied by Jane for this and other eateries in the area, another welcoming and appreciated gesture. Two excellent nights of peaceful sleep in a comfy bed. The breakfast room, with its high ceiling and ornate cornicing overlooked the front car park and leafy street, as did the separate guest lounge. Breakfast was excellent, with a wonderful offering of fresh fruit, cereals and items freshly cooked to order. The high quality and plentiful cafetiere of coffee helping kick start the mornings, the crisp tablecloths and fine tableware giving a first class experience. A unique touch was the freshly baked Chorley Cake, individually wrapped, which I was encouraged to take away for a mid-morning treat, and I am so glad I did - it was absolutely amazing. This was my first time to Southport and I am immediately a fan of the Bowden Lodge and the town. I look forward to returning to both.
