Today our eagle-eyed daughter spotted that Claremont Cottage has been ranked 24th of 30 top B&Bs and Guesthouses in Scotland, and the only such on the list from St Andrews.

We are very surprised! Because this honour has been awarded based on guest reviews, we want to thank from the bottom of our hearts all our lovely guests who have perjured themselves so shamelessly on our behalf to achieve this!

We are having a very busy summer here at Claremont Cottage. 31 nights booked in July and only one night left in August. Many of our lovely guests have stayed for just one night and have regretted that, so we will help guests next year from having those regrets by bringing in a 2-night minimum stay policy, but will always make exceptions for early adopters who want to return. 😎. Call us on 01334 850989 for September availability, as we are filling up!

Breakfast, the most important meal of the day, deserves to have the right setting: yours will be served around our family dining table in front of the AGA, and looking out west through our picture window across the burn and rhododendron bank, over our beech hedge to a paddock with a horse and five donkeys and then an expansive field stretching to the horizon.

Our dining table is of solid elm, commissioned in 1988 from John Chalmers-Brown, a talented craftsman working at Arley Hall in Cheshire, with elm chairs designed and constructed for us by the late Tim Stead at Blainslie, outside Lauder in the Borders. You can choose from a varied menu, including cereals, porridge, a full cooked breakfast or scrambled egg with smoked salmon, toast and home-made marmalade or jams, washed down with fruit juices and fresh tea, coffee or hot chocolate. All you need to do is choose what you would like the evening before and let us know when you would like it served; leave the rest to us - We will try to ensure you are not disappointed!

We look forward to welcoming you to St Andrews and to stay in our Garden Suite. Situated just 5 minutes from town, west of St Andrews and south of Strathkinness, we enjoy the peace of the countryside and the beauty of our garden, yet are conveniently placed for golf courses (3 minutes from the Dukes Course, 10 minutes from the Old Course, about 30 minutes from Kingsbarns), close to Craigtoun Park, and easily accessible when approaching St Andrews. We can meet you at Leuchars if you are travelling by train and can drop you into town if you do not wish to drive. Let us look after you! The Michelin-starred Peat Inn is just 10 minutes south of us and the lovely house and grounds of Hill of Tarvit in the care of the National Trust for Scotland is also 10 minutes west of us. We particularly welcome parents delivering students to the University and would be delighted to add an extra place or two around the breakfast table for them to join you.

The garden at Claremont Cottage provides interest at most times of the year and a wonderful haven of peace and beauty which we would like to share with our guests. Having been developed as a labour of love over the last five years by Neill, there is plenty to enjoy, from spring bulbs, irises, intense blue Himalyan poppies/mecanopsis, primulas, Californian lilacs, magnolias, rhododendrons and azaleas, lavender and ornamental grasses, clematis, honeysuckle, roses, hydrangeas and eucryphias, not to mention the trees - five Metasequoias down the drive, a Gingko, beeches (two copper, one fastigiated and a green beech hedge), oaks (including some saplings from acorns collected from the Birnam Oak), flowering cherries silver birches and maples. Guests are welcome to pause and sit awhile on the stone bench or the reclaimed Victorian wooden bench or to recline in the hammock under the Maple.
