But follow this little passageway beside The Royal George and you’ll discover this lovely hidden spot, complete with flowers and grapevines overhead.

Perfect for a quiet drink after exploring the village—and only a very short stroll from Alum Cottage.

Going up! Saltburn Cliff Tramway is finally back in action 🚋

Lovely news for anyone planning a visit to this beautiful stretch of coast. A ride on the tramway, a wander along the pier and fish and chips by the sea… that sounds like a day well spent.

Saltburn makes a lovely day out during a stay at Alum Cottage in Staithes.

Just one week until cottage doors open and Staithes becomes a village full of art. 🎨

The Staithes Festival of Arts & Heritage returns on 11–13 September, turning cottages and tucked-away spaces into pop-up galleries, with music and local history to discover along the way.

A chance to wander the cobbled streets, peek through doors you’d normally walk past and meet the artists behind the work—all with this beautiful village as the backdrop.

These are a few of my favourite pics from our time at Alum Cottage during previous festivals. You can see why artists keep coming back, can’t you?

Thank you to everyone working behind the scenes to bring the festival to life. I know it will be amazing.

Quiet streets, cosy pubs and evenings by the fire… November in Staithes 🌊

Wrap up for a seaside wander, linger over lunch in a cosy village pub, then head back to Alum Cottage as the harbour lights begin to twinkle. Fire lit, drink in hand and nowhere you need to be.

Our September weekend has been snapped up—thank you! But if you’re wishing you’d booked a little escape, we have November dates available.

We have a three-night weekend available at Alum Cottage, arriving Friday 25th September and leaving Monday 28th.

Think slow mornings, a wander down to the harbour, coastal walks and a cosy pub stop before heading back to the cottage. Three nights to take your time and enjoy village life.

One well-behaved dog is welcome too (£20 dog fee). 🐾

A weekend celebrating everything that makes Staithes so special 🎨⚓

This years dates are Friday 11th to Sunday the 13th of September.

From art, music and traditional crafts to fascinating stories from the village’s past, Staithes Arts & Heritage Weekend brings its cobbled streets to life.

Such a lovely atmosphere and a wonderful way to discover the creativity, character and history tucked into every corner of this beautiful fishing village.

Well… according to Ro, anyway 😂

One of the loveliest things about bringing children to Staithes is seeing it all through their imagination. Who knows what adventures are happening out at sea? ⚓️🌊
