Breakaway Ramblers

Breakaway Ramblers Breakaway Ramblers are a group of walkers who one Sunday a month explore in and around Derbyshire.

Breakaway Ramblers Club was started in 1990 by Alan Marriott and Marjory Hill. At first Alan was the only Member who was able to lead the walks but over the years we have gained many other Members who now plan and lead walks. We are a very friendly club and always make new Members very welcome. As well our normal walks we also have social events, BBQs, Christmas Dinner Walk and an annual holiday e

tc. One important feature the Club has is a dedicated coach that picks members up at designated pick up points and is available at all lunch stops. Should Members not wish to walk in the afternoon they are able top remain on the coach which is often able to take them to interesting destinations. We welcome walkers of all ages and abilities with A Walks designed for Members who enjoy more rugged and hilly terrain and B Walks which are morning walks only and are slower paced over less challenging countryside.

9.2 miles yesterday. We split into three groups and all made our way, via different routes, to the Malt Shovel near Bolehill. The A Group climbed to the Trigg Point on Wirksworth Moor and into low cloud. The others took easier ways there. After lunch some took the coach back to Cromford Mills whilst the rest joined together to walk down in the rain. Everyone agreed we'd had great day out despite the weather.

A brilliant day saw us start from Monsal Head and walk to Little Longstone then up and along Cherpit Lane and then a long climb to Longstone Moor. Then steeply down to Moor Lane and into Great Longstone for lunch at the Crispin Inn. After lunch over to Churchdale Farm past Churchdale Hall through Ashford in the Water and back to Monsal Head. The B Group took an easier route to meet us at Great Longstone and a shorter route back in the afternoon. Mick led an even easier walk for a few members.
