There are some moments in B&B life that simply cannot be rehearsed… 😂
I started getting ready for work the other morning because I had a house full of guests and breakfasts to prepare.
I was in my private bathroom, still in my nightie, brushing my teeth, when suddenly…
KNOCK KNOCK.
Before I could answer, the door opened and there was one of my guests! 😳
Now, I hadn’t met them before because they’d checked themselves in late the night before.
So there I stood, looking at her with an electric toothbrush buzzing away in my mouth and a very impressive amount of toothpaste foam.
She explained that she couldn’t work out how to adjust the water temperature in the shower and wondered if I could come and have a look.
Naturally, being the consummate professional that I am, I nodded and made some sort of helpful noise around my toothbrush. 😂
I quickly got dressed and followed her to their room and showed her the temperature dial, which is helpfully marked in centigrade.
Ah.
That was the problem, they said: they’re American. 🇺🇸
So I demonstrated what constitutes a good shower temperature and, problem solved, she was very apologetic about disturbing me.
Then she said:
"I bet you get that all the time working with the public."
Erm....Nope!
I’ve been running a B&B for 5 years now, and I can honestly say this was a first.
I don't usually greet my guests in my nightie, with a mouthful of toothpaste and an electric toothbrush buzzing away. 😂😂
There really is no such thing as a normal day in hospitality!
