Just made a very big mistake. I needed WIFI everywhere in my house which requires a different and more expensive contract from British Telecom...and that and ONLY that is what I asked for. They sent the contract which did talk about Digital Voice Home; that technical description went over my head. I did not ask for it and I did not want it. To be blunt I did not care about it , what a mistake.
It now turns out that means turning off the copper wire delivery system. That sounds innocuous enough EXCEPT I live rurally (3.5 miles to the nearest village). Being rural we do have regular power cuts when of course electrical items do not work ... LIKE THE BT PHONE HUB.
So up to now I have had an analogue phone plugged into a second socket and when there was a power cut I could at least make emergency phone calls. Now I do not have that fallback that is REALLY RALLY DANGEROUS for those of us who live rurally. The Government is promoting a dangerous option.
I am of course trying to contact my MP... not available GRRRRR
I did try to contact the ombudsman but I must give poor little innocent BT eight weeks before the ombudsman will listen to me, NOT that BT have any intention of changing their position.
BT assures me they cannot change me back because the Government insists that they implement this new system.
I understand the Government are trying to enforce smart meters and they also don't work properly IF at all rurally.
My advice to anyone seeing this is (and living rurally) DO NOT accept Digital Voice under any circumstances.
