Well, for now, we close our doors to guests. We've tried to keep going but having full-time jobs, shift patterns and more time needed with family, when we've had a booking it's been a rush and a stress to get everything ready.
So, we close the doors on the Hop Kiln till spring and make the final decision then as to whether on not to open the doors again. For now I thank everyone who came to stay and shared our beautiful part of Herefordshire over the last 9 years.

It's a sad week as we say goodbye to our last guests. But at least there'll be no more ironing or toilet cleaning and if we do shut for good, we could end up with a lot of lovely furniture in our house instead of the Marketplace cast offs it's currently full of. Every cloud and all that.

Thanks again to everyone who visited for a bit of peace and quiet. After 9 years and 180 reviews, we still hold a star rating of 4.99 /5 stars and that 0.01 was lost on someone not appreciating what living in the countryside means. No there isn't a shop just down the road. No there wasn't any takeaways that would deliver (there is now!) No the bus doesn't run all evening and yes a cab will cost you an arm and a leg. But you don't stay at a converted farm because of it's amenities and nightlife. But hay ho you can't please everyone.

I'm proud of what we've achieved, the standard we've upheld, the problems we've overcome and how Dave and I worked as a team to run our little family business. With the cost of living, the low average nightly rates of beautiful Herefordshire and the cost of cleaners, we couldn't carry on. Sadly we couldn't justify paying someone to do the changeovers. It wouldn't be worth taking a booking.

So we close the door on this chapter and concentrate on the here and now. Building new careers, spending more time with family and having the time to do the home improvements we need on our dated home. Maybe one day we'll open another holiday let or B&B but for now we pack away the welcome basket, the information folder and the tea and coffee...

Cheers x

The Hopkiln lives on. 🥳

For now though, we're only taking bookings of 4+ nights. Discount for 7 nights.

This will make it easier to manage now I'm working full-time and Dave works shifts (Inc nights). 🙈

We'll try this till the end of the season and reassess then.

Taking bookings until the end of October 2026.

The Hopkiln will be closing down from the 6th July for the foreseeable future.

It has served us well, through difficult times, but with full-time jobs it has become increasingly difficult to run it. It doesn't earn enough to pay someone to do the changeovers and to be honest I'm exhausted.

Existing bookings will be honoured and between now and the 6th July, it will be business as usual. If you want one more opportunity to sleep in a Hopkiln then get in touch.
