As summer begins to soften, we’re already feeling that shift toward slower days at Dalriada. The evenings turn a little cooler, the sunsets stretch out in deeper colours, and the coastal path gets that crisp edge that makes dog walks feel even better. It’s not quite autumn yet, but you can sense it arriving — the perfect time to plan a September, October or November adventure.

If you’re dreaming of quieter beaches, fresh air, and cosy evenings overlooking the sea, the next few months are ideal. Autumn stays in Stonehaven are some of the most beautiful of the year — and they’re ready to book now.

Stonehaven seaside life in a nutshell — kids splashing in the water, a dog wandering happily along the cliff path, boats resting in the harbour and gentle waves rolling over the shingles. These are the small, everyday moments that make the Aberdeenshire coast feel so special: simple, calm, and full of character.

From Dalriada Luxury Lodges, this is the world just down the hill. A self‑catering stay where you can dip into Stonehaven’s harbour, beaches and cliff walks whenever the mood strikes, and soak up the easy rhythm of Scottish coastal life.

Slow moments come easy at Dalriada. A quiet cuppa out on the decking, the Stonehaven coastline stretching out in front of you… then later, a cosy blanket on the sofa with the same peaceful view through the windows. Whether it’s sea air or sofa‑snug, Dalriada makes switching off feel effortless — a little Aberdeenshire calm by the coast.

Just down the hill from Dalriada Luxury Lodges, the kids headed off on a seaside adventure at Cowie Shore — one of Stonehaven’s best family‑friendly spots. Buckets in hand, they explored the rock pools, searching for shells, tiny fish and anything that moved.
Cowie Shore never disappoints for little explorers. The rock pools were full of life, and the excitement peaked when they discovered a crab hiding beneath the seaweed. Sandy knees, salty hands and big smiles — the perfect coastal afternoon.
Meanwhile, the adults enjoyed a quiet moment with a coffee from Aunty Betty’s, watching the kids make memories along the shoreline. It’s one of those simple Stonehaven days that feels just right.
Cowie Shore is a brilliant family activity right on Dalriada’s doorstep — rock pooling, seaside adventures, and a crab story to take home.

Eight lodges tucked and nestled into the hillside above Stonehaven, each with its own quiet corner of the Aberdeenshire coast.

All identical in layout — two bedrooms, two bathrooms, everything on one level — yet each one feels like its own little retreat.

Private decking for slow mornings, a kit house for golf clubs, paddleboards or sandy shoes, and an EV charge point waiting outside for easy arrivals.

Sleeping up to four, with six dog‑friendly lodges, Dalriada is an effortless self‑catering base for families, couples and friends.

There’s a gentle rhythm to staying here — the kind where the coastline does half the hosting and you simply settle in.

Walking from Dalriada to Skatie Shore always feels like slipping into a little secret. Step out of the lodges and turn right, heading up towards the Den of Logie. The path is slightly overgrown just now, but in the best possible way — bees drifting between the wildflowers, pockets of pollen everywhere, nature doing exactly what it wants to do.

Follow the track all the way along until you reach the next railway viaduct. There’s a set of steps tucked just beside it. Head down, then let the path guide you towards the shore. It’s steep in places, the kind of descent that makes you slow down and take your time, but the reward arrives quickly.

The coast opens up in front of you — rocks, sands, and little coves that feel untouched. Skatie Shore always appears like a hidden gem, a quiet sweep of coastline perfect for a dip on a warm day. The water is beautiful, though you’ll want to keep an eye out for jellyfish drifting lazily near the shallows.

A short walk, a secret cove, and that feeling of discovering something special right on Dalriada’s doorstep.
