At Cala Hotels we’re proud to support Kick About with a Cop, a fantastic new initiative from Action for Children in partnership with Police Scotland. Running during school lunchtimes, the scheme brings officers and local school pupils together through football, helping to build trust, confidence and positive relationships in a relaxed, fun environment.

It’s a great example of how sport can create meaningful connections and support young people both on and off the pitch.

Each week, the standout player is recognised with a Player of the Week trophy and a Cala Hotels voucher, celebrating teamwork, effort and good sportsmanship.

Pictured are Margaret MacIsaac and Donna MacDonald from Action for Children, Stuart Beaufoy, Director at Cala Hotels, along with PC Donald Steele.

Stornoway hotel group, Cala Hotels, has changed hands in a management buy-out upon the retiral of its managing director, Kenneth Mackenzie, who said,

“After over 50 years at the helm of Cala Hotels, I have decided that it is time for me to retire. I consider it to be my great privilege that Cala has been such a huge part of my life and, whilst I am sad to be leaving, I am happy to be doing so at a time when the hotel group is in such a sound financial position, and when its future business prospects have never been better.

I am delighted to say that, after much discussion, an agreement was reached to allow our senior managers, Stuart Beaufoy, Christina Miller, Alexander Macleod, and my son Norrie Mackenzie, to conduct a management buy-out of the family business comprising Cabarfeidh Hotel, Caladh Inn, and Royal Hotel. No - one knows our business better than they do, or has its interests nearer to their hearts”.

Stuart, on behalf of the new team said “ We, as a management team have been so privileged to be led and mentored by Kenneth, and now feels the perfect time to continue the growth of Cala Hotels for many more years to come. We are incredibly excited about this new chapter in the life of Cala, our commitment to providing exceptional guest experiences, supporting local communities, and maintaining our standing as a leader in the hotel market remains stronger than ever.”

Cala Hotels has been formally recognised for its contribution to the national Covid 19 response, receiving a commemorative plaque, a St Georges Cross medal, and a personal note from the late Queen Elizabeth.

This recognition was awarded in honour of the group’s role in the management and voluntary surrender of the Cabarfeidh Hotel which was made available as a vaccination centre during the height of the pandemic, and the Caladh Inn that was used as a hub for key workers and provided beds for vulnerable and sick people when required.

Stuart Beaufoy, Cala Hotels Group Manager, was presented with a plaque by Director of Human Resources and Workforce development, Dianne Macdonald. We at Cala Hotels are deeply proud that, in some small way, we could support this mission. Whether it was providing rooms and meals to essential travellers, or an area for a vaccination centre, our team worked with one purpose – to help those who were helping us all. It was a privilege to stand alongside our friends at NHS Western Isles and contribute to the collective effort that united communities across the country. This plaque belongs to every Cala Hotels staff member who gave their time, energy, and care without hesitation and stands as a lasting symbol of community spirit, resilience, and the power of collective action in the face of crisis.
