UPDATED. FOR OUR GUESTS TRAVELLING WITH DOGS, I've compiled a list of dog-friendly places to eat whilst exploring Lewis and Harris. If you see somewhere of interest, like their page or check their website to keep abreast of opening hours, etc.
Lots more dining options at www.hebrideanluxuryholidays.co.uk/food-drink/ but this is just a small list of suggested dog-friendly options...
From north to south (very roughly) we have:
WobblyDog.Scot Dog-friendly shop and cafΓ© at Lionel. Perfect after a trip to Port of Ness beach. Full cooked breakfasts and delicious home-baking galore.
Cross Inn & Old Barn Bar Just 4 miles from the Butt of Lewis, the Cross Inn offers dog-friendly dining in their Old Barn Bar or beer garden.
The Crown Inn, Stornoway. Large varied menu that uses local produce wherever possible. Something for all tastes. Dogs allowed in the bar area.
Beckett and sons Stornoway. Located in the modernist Harris and Lewis Smokehouse building on Sandwick Road, Beckett and Sons offers a delicious menu, with a focus on local produce. Open Sundays too.
No.9 Coffee & Restaurant Stornoway. Stylish dog-friendly coffee shop. The owner has recently merged his two businesses with No 9 Coffee and Restaurant moving into his Blakes Restaurant premises on Bank Street. Dogs allowed in bar area or upstairs lounge. Lovely brunch/lunch spot.
The Blue Lobster and the Woodlands Centre (Stornoway) in the Castle Grounds both have outdoor seating with water bowls.
The New Lewis - An LeΓ²dhas ΓΉr, Stornoway. Hearty pub food and dogs welcome. Sunday roasts too.
The Hub Cafe Stornoway.
Full cooked breakfasts, hot filled rolls, soups and baked sweet treats. Sofa area downstairs for customers with dogs.
Crust Near Stornoway, serving Neapolitan-style pizza from their converted shipping container on the A858 at Achmore.
Hebridean Heatwave Takeaway Borve, Lewis. Takeaway with everything from full Scottish breakfast to burgers and curries.
Dunan Hotel, Carloway (formerly the Doune Braes Hotel). Great stop while visiting Callanish standing stones, Carloway Broch and Gearrannan Blackhouse village. Sunday roasts get rave reviews (booking advised for Sunday roasts). Dogs welcome.
The Raider Trailer Reef beach. Hearty tasty burgers and filled paninis. We love the scallops, bacon and Stornoway black pudding roll. Perfect lunch stop while enjoying the beautiful beaches of the Bhaltos peninsula on the west side.
The Edge Cafe (and adjoining Apex Arts and Crafts) at Gallan Head, Aird Uig. Quirky cafe with friendly service and homecooked fayre. Dog owners welcome inside as long as other customers already in the cafe don't mind. Stunning views.
The Isle of Harris Distillery Tarbert. Dogs allowed in the fireside reception area or you can eat at the outside seating area. Soup, seafood platters, cheeseboards with homemade oatcakes and delicious scones.
Iasg Seafood Restaurant in Tarbert. For anyone missing the freshly caught seafood delights offered by Lornaβs Larder, this is where you'll find her now. No dogs within the restaurant but there are outside picnic tables.
Talla na Mara Community Cafe Dog-friendly restaurant with an unobstructed view of Niseaboist beach and the Sound of Taransay. Brilliant arts and exhibition space too with a full calendar of events.
Croft36 Northton. As well as ready-to-eat meals, Croft 36 also has a shop selling home-baking, delicious pasties, pies and seasonal veg. The shop is self-service with an honesty box. Try their langoustine butteries (amazing) and their cinnamon and nutmeg butteries. Buy extras for later.
Isle of Harris Brewery Restaurant, bottleshop and deli at Leverburgh Pier. Delicious hearty fare. Dog-friendly. Posh Ploughman's lunches (including Scottish cheeses, roasted Taransay venison and locally landed langoustines and crab) served Sundays and Mondays to eat in or take away.
Loads of other tantalising honesty sheds around the island. I'll update soon and add these in....
