The Stag at Stow

The Stag at Stow A Boutique Pub & Restaurant, with twenty two letting rooms, set in the historic Cotswold market town of Stow on the Wold. They say 'George' doesn't like change.

People come from all over the world to stay at The Stag at Stow and it's not hard to see why. This is a pub that lives up to its marvellous setting. Stow is one of the most photogenic of the Cotswolds' beautiful little towns and even by local standards, The White Hart Hotel is as pretty as a picture. It could also fill a whole chapter of a book on architecture. Parts of it date back to the 12th Ce

ntury, it was a coaching inn from the 14th Century and there are two Tudor priest holes upstairs. The front of the building is relatively recent - merely Georgian! There is a front bar which is popular with locals, a small side lounge which visitors find irresistible and a large back bar, which includes the oldest part of the building. The White Hart also boasts a small beer garden and a restaurant, in an extension built in Victorian times, which has an extensive menu catering for a wide range of tastes and pockets. If you are intending to stay overnight, there are five rooms to choose from, but try to book early because this is always a popular hotel. It's the kind of place people regularly come back to. Some come back hoping to meet The Stag at Stow's non-paying guest, a friendly ghost whom the locals have nicknamed 'George'. He sometimes manifests as a vertical white light after closing time in the bar, but only rarely appears as a figure - and then apparently for a reason. The good news for George - and everybody else - is that there isn't much at The White Hart that anybody would want to change.

Some of the best mornings are the ones with no alarm set, no rushing, and nothing in the diary until you decide otherwise.

Our rooms are designed for exactly that kind of stay.

Proper rest, proper comfort, and that deeply satisfying feeling of waking up somewhere that someone has clearly put a lot of thought into.

Whether you’re after a solo escape, a trip away with your partner, or a long overdue catch up with friends, the Cotswolds has a habit of making everything feel a bit slower and a bit better.

If your dad deserves a proper Father’s Day, and let’s be honest, he absolutely does, we’d love to have you both here at The Stag.

We’re serving 2 and 3 course menus this Father’s Day and every dad who joins us gets a complimentary pint on us.

A long lunch with good food, cold drinks, and the people you love, in the sunshine in the Cotswolds, is a pretty hard thing to beat.

Book your table via the link in bio and let’s make it one to remember 🍺

There is something about eating outside when the weather actually plays ball that just makes everything taste better.

The wine hits differently, the conversation flows easier, and that specific kind of long afternoon where nobody checks their phone starts to feel very possible.

We’ve got the tables, we’ve got the menu, and when the sun shows up, there really is nowhere better to be in the Cotswolds.

Sound on and come and see for yourself.

The only question is… who’s buying the first round?

That moment you pick up your keys at check-in and the weekend properly begins.

We’ve got 23 rooms here at The Stag, all individually designed, all a bit different, all with that feeling of arriving somewhere that’s been thought about.

Whether you’re after a quiet escape or using us as a base to explore the Cotswolds properly, we’re right in the middle of it all.

Stow-on-the-Wold is one of those places people always say they’ll visit and then somehow never quite get round to. Consider this your nudge.

There’s a version of summer that doesn’t involve airports or overpriced cocktails in a crowded beer garden. It looks more like a table outside, something seasonal on the plate, and absolutely nowhere you need to be afterwards.

We’ve been making the most of the longer evenings here at The Stag and honestly, it’s pretty good right now.

Come and see for yourself. Book via the link in bio 🌿

You probably didn’t know we have a second garden…

Everyone finds the sunny terrace behind the original pub first. But tucked away behind the Georgian part of the hotel is our huge grassy garden - and it might just be our favourite spot.

Made for lazy long lunches that turn into afternoon drinks, a cold crisp post-work pint, or a quiet mid-morning coffee in the sunshine.

If you’ve only ever stopped at the terrace, consider this your sign to wander a little further next time.

Which garden are you choosing?
