Scotland is home to over 150 whisky distilleries, producing a huge range of blended and single malt whiskies that are famous around the world. Many of these are on the west coast. Several are easily accessible from the Kilcamb Lodge: Ardnamurchan, Nc’nean, Tobermory and Oban. Each has its own distinctive taste, reflecting the different raw materials and production methods used by the distillery teams.

For lovers of Scottish whisky, the good news is that each of our local distilleries organises interesting distillery tours, and has a visitor centre where you try a small sample of each whisky.

Every one of our 11 rooms is different. Each has an exclusive design, with a unique choice of furnishings. In particular, every room has its own design of wallpaper. This beautiful thistle pattern can be found in Room 8, complemented by a stunning blue headboard and cushion covers in our very own Kilcamb tartan.

The one common factor, which brings together all our guest bedrooms, is their luxurious, relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. They are spaces where you can unwind after a busy day exploring the local area, or after a long journey to reach Sunart, while you prepare for a delicious lunch or evening meal in our brassiere or restaurant.

Meet Hamish!

He normally lives in Room 6, our Superior Loch View Bedroom. For a Highland Coo, and despite his horns and shaggy coat, Hamish is a friendly character. He has a gentle sense of humour and wide range of hobbies, including song and dance. In fact, he’s quite a cowmedian and, when the moood takes him, can turn out great hoof-tapping tunes, making him udderly charming!

Room 6 - Hamish’s home - has a super king-size double bed, (you won’t need to share this with Hamish as he prefers to sleep on the floor), underfloor heating, modern bathroom and beautiful views across Loch Sunart.

Scotland is rapidly becoming a go-to destination for holiday makers searching for cooler temperatures – so called, ‘coolcations’. This summer, while most of England and Wales, as well as large parts of Europe, have been beset by baking heat for weeks at a time, we’ve been enjoying balmy days and moderate temperatures. For perhaps the first time, we’ve had visitors praising our cloudy skies and frequent rainfall!
The west coast of Scotland has always been renowned for its stunning scenery, beautiful lochs, awe-inspiring mountains and deserted sandy beaches. To that list we can now add its desirability as the place to visit for a coolcation.
The intense heat of this summer may be fading, but it’ll return next year. You can avoid the worst of the heat by taking a coolcation at the Kilcamb Lodge – the place that’s cool (in both interpretations of the word!)

Not so long ago we were privileged to photograph this classic Aston Martin DB5, which was talking part in the Skyfall road tour. The DB5 was immortalised in the James Bond movie, Goldfinger, in 1964. DB5s also appeared in later Bond movies, including Thunderball, Goldeneye, Casino Royale and, of course, Skyfall, where it met an untimely end in the film’s climactic finale (although it was actually a 1/3 sized scale model that was blown up).
Over the years we’ve been proud to host owners of many classic cars, as well as organised tours from car clubs. Although sad to say that we’ve yet to host Daniel Craig. Maybe one day he’ll pop along in another DB5!

Step back into history! The Kilcamb Lodge is believed to be one of the oldest stone-built houses in Scotland, dating back to the early part of the eighteenth century.
Over the years, the building has been used as a military barracks, around the time of the 1745 rebellion, then at different periods it was a home for an Admiral, a church minister and schoolteacher. It was also used as a hunting lodge.
In the Victorian era new east and west wings were added, turning the building into an imposing mansion with extensive garden tended by 12 gardeners.
After the Second World War the Lodge became home to Dr Fraser Darling, the famous ornithologist, farmer and environmentalist; he directed the West Highland Survey that would eventually be used to determine government policy for the region.
Guests at Kilcamb Lodge can explore this long and varied history while enjoying the best in modern comforts, award-winning food and drink and friendly, professional service.
