Poetry-lovers!

I’ve discovered a new poetry festival coming to Stroud this October, 15th – 17th. Called The Dobunni Festival, it's part of Stroud Arts Festival and is a wonderful celebration of words, community and place. Nationally known poets will be appearing alongside a rich variety of local poets from the Five Valleys and across Gloucestershire.

The organisers hope to attract people who may not have attended poetry events before – could this be you?

This festival will be especially inclusive, with a structured scale of fees making sure that all poets are paid properly for their appearances, whether well-known or new.

At the time of writing there are no bookings for 15th - 17th October at Sky Blue Guest House, so take your pick of the rooms and make a booking now.

October’s a great month to settle in a corner with a good book and a hot chocolate.

Your perfect foodie weekend is here!

There are still vacancies for all three rooms for the last two weekends in August.

On Friday evening you can pop in to Tesco Express (see map in photos) to buy breakfast and then treat yourself to a meal at The Old Crown, Paganhill, which is a ten minute walk away from here (and 15 minute walk back up the hill, sorry!)

Start your Saturday by with a leisurely brunch on the patio, overlooking the garden and views beyond. Amble into Stroud and do some shopping at the Farmers Market or maybe Made In Stroud, find one of our many places to eat, or treat yourself to Simpsons Fish & Chips - Stroud to bring back here to eat, and finish up with a late dip in the hot tub.

On Sunday you can enjoy another sunshine brunch or why not try a cooked breakfast just up the hill at Ruscombe & Whiteshill Village Shop. On your way home perhaps you can call in at Jolly Nice for more wonderful shopping and eating.

A really enjoyable stay at Jane's lovely guesthouse. I particularly appreciated the peace and quiet and the beautiful view from the bedroom window. Excellent communication including a detailed guidebook."

It's Pride Month in the UK, but here in Stroud we're celebrating particularly on Saturday 25th July.

There will be a march starting at 11.00 (so plenty of time for a lie-in 😉), followed by our usual picnic, with stalls and musicians.

Picture yourself relaxing in the hot tub while admiring the higher bits of the garden. Then you climb out and wrapped up you sit in the sun room and admire the rest. Once you're dressed, you wander down and explore, sitting on the bench near the beech hedge to enjoy all the colours from the other end of the garden.

Spring at Sky Blue Guest House is not to be missed. So much going on in the garden and it's ideal weather for relaxing in the hot tub after a day at Stroud's famous Farmers Market.

Note the pink geranium, which has overwintered twice on the sheltered patio and hope you love the colours of the tulips at the moment.

Spaces still for the rest of April but if you want particular dates do book ahead for other dates.
