It’s National Farmers’ Day 👨🏻‍🌾

At 71, Christopher is looking good on his more than full-time farming work and over the average farmer age of 59 🤯 We’re super lucky to have the lovely son-in-law Jamie, apprenticed to Christopher, as one of the 2% of UK farmers who are under 35. And let’s not forget our superstar Warren who works on the farm too. 💪

Today we’re celebrating our gorgeous, dedicated farmers, and their contribution to growing food – and in everything else they do on our diversified farm. 🌾

There’s not many hours left in the day to sleep! 💤

Some seriously epic guest pics from a Tudor night in the barn ⚔️🏰🕯️👑📜🪶🏹🎻

When you’ve got a magnificent 16th century barn, a chest full of Tudor costumes and 24 of your favourite people under one roof… there’s only one thing to do.

Dress up, feast down banquet tables, dance and be merry!! 🍗🍷

Borrow our warm Tudor costumes, lay the banquet tables with wooden platters, pewter spoons and glazed pottery, then settle in for a Tudor feast - haunches of venison, pheasant pie, gooseberry cake… washed down with some mead. After a grand supper, try our Tudor quiz and challenge eachother to a ye olde dance-off or get a tutor in to teach you!

Quite the way to celebrate a hen, birthday or gathering we think!

We’re rather in love with these dried alliums in their brass jugs in The Tudor Barn 💜

Kindly given to us by the lovely Louise back in June for Daisy’s wedding, they’ve survived and dried beautifully and look so lovely against the beams. A little bit of summer that we can enjoy for much longer!

Join us at Milden for our Beginner Fungi Identification Courses this October. For the third year, Juliet is running her fungi courses… a mix of theory and getting out in the fresh air 🌿

📅 2026 dates: Thursday 22 October | Monday 26 October, 9am–4pm

Juliet is a keen fungi enthusiast who has pursued her passion for decades. She won’t turn you into an expert overnight, but she can help build up your field identification skills and show you where and when to look for autumn fungi. 🕵️‍♀️

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a fungi lover keen to learn more, come along and discover the wonderful world of fungi!

One of the unexpected perks of drought and a shockingly early harvest? The lads have finally had time to tackle the jobs Christopher has been putting off for 40+ years… 🫪

High up on the list: clearing out the wheat barn. 📋

Years of hand-me-down fridges that ‘might’ work, washing machines that ‘just need a little something’ and bits of wood that ‘may’ come in useful. There’s been frustration, laughter, head-scratching, some rogue items uncovered and a LOT of dust 🧼🧹

It’s pretty satisfying to finally see the floor again!!
