💚 WOW… WHAT A NIGHT! 💚

We honestly can’t thank everyone enough for the overwhelming support we received at the launch of The Farmers Arms, West Hatch.

To everyone who came along, raised a glass with us, enjoyed the music, brought friends and family, and wished us well — THANK YOU!

Seeing the pub so full of people, laughter and life was incredibly special and made all the hard work leading up to opening worthwhile.

A huge thank you also goes to our amazing team, who worked incredibly hard throughout the evening, and to everyone who helped behind the scenes to make our launch possible.

We have been completely blown away by the kind words, messages and encouragement we’ve received from the local community and beyond.

This is only the beginning, and we’re so excited for what’s ahead at The Farmers Arms.

The Farmers Arms – West Hatch, Taunton

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Sous Chef to join our kitchen team as we prepare to reopen The Farmers Arms, West Hatch under new ownership.

We’re creating a welcoming traditional country pub with a strong focus on fresh, quality pub food, Sunday roasts and locally sourced ingredients.

The Role

Working alongside our Head Chef, you’ll help with:

* Preparing and delivering consistently high-quality food
* Supporting the day-to-day running of the kitchen
* Maintaining excellent food hygiene and kitchen standards
* Stock control and preparation
* Helping develop specials and seasonal dishes
* Supporting and supervising the kitchen team
* Covering the Head Chef when required

What We’re Looking For

We’d love to hear from someone who is:

* Experienced in a busy pub, restaurant or similar kitchen
* Passionate about freshly prepared food
* Reliable, organised and able to work well under pressure
* A strong team player with a positive attitude
* Confident taking responsibility when required

🌿 CAN YOU HELP US GROW OUR KITCHEN HERB GARDEN? 🌿

We’re creating a lovely kitchen herb garden here at The Farmers Arms, West Hatch, so our chefs can pick fresh herbs to use in our dishes straight from the garden. 🌱👨‍🍳

We’d love to make it a little community project, so we’re asking whether any of our wonderful locals and keen gardeners might have spare herb plants or cuttings they’d be happy to donate.

We’d be grateful for all sorts, including rosemary, thyme, sage, mint, parsley, chives, oregano, basil and anything else you think would be useful in a busy pub kitchen!

If you have something growing in abundance that you’d be happy to share, simply pop it into the pub or send us a message. 💚

Hopefully, before long, we’ll have a thriving Farmers Arms Kitchen Herb Garden filled with plants donated by our local community.

We’re so excited to share a few photos of the transformation taking place in our guest rooms at The Farmers Arms, West Hatch. 🏡

We’ve been working hard to give each room a fresh new look while keeping the warmth, character and country charm of the pub.

There are still a few finishing touches to go, but we couldn’t resist giving you a sneak peek! 👀

Our five individually styled letting rooms will be ready to welcome guests when we reopen this September — including three dog-friendly rooms with their own secure private garden areas. 🐾🌿

🌳 A Sad but Necessary Decision 🌳

We wanted to share an update about the large central tree in our garden, which we know has been part of the landscape here for many years and has become something of a local landmark.

Sadly, following professional advice, we have been told that the tree is suffering from canker and is also heavily wrapped in mistletoe. The disease has weakened the tree to the point that there is now a genuine risk of large sections snapping off during high winds, creating a significant safety concern.

We had hoped that we could simply reduce or heavily prune the tree to make it safe while preserving it. Unfortunately, we have been advised that doing so would ultimately cause the tree to die, and that removal is now the safest and most responsible option.

This isn’t a decision we have taken lightly. 💚 We really didn’t want to lose it. We appreciate how prominent this beautiful tree is within the garden and the surrounding landscape, and we know many local people will be sad to see it go too.

However, with the garden being enjoyed by families, children, dogs and visitors, everyone’s safety has to come first.

We wanted to explain the situation before any work takes place so that nobody is surprised to see it being removed. We will be very sad to say goodbye to such a wonderful old feature of The Farmers Arms.
