The Mount Somerset

I am writing with the sad news that The Mount Somerset will be closing permanently and indefinitely from the 1st April 2025.

A letter from our owners yesterday stated that 'This has not been an easy decision but has become necessary in light of ongoing financial losses and the wider economic climate as I am sure you will understand." And honestly we do.

We realise that a number of our guests have Gift Vouchers to redeem; if it suits you - and we can accommodate you over the next two-weeks we would love to welcome you and say a personal thank you for your support. We understand of course that this will not be convenient for everyone and have an assurance from the owners that all unredeemed Gift Vouchers will be refunded to the original purchaser once we have closed.

We expect an influx of questions over the coming days and will do our best to have the answers - but ask that The Mount is not contacted over this weekend as we have given the staff time off to process the news.

The phones will be manned from Monday and I will do my best to answer emails and comments over the weekend.

It goes without saying that despite The Mount not being a financial success it has been a huge personal success and Olly and I thank you for once again trusting us with your dining experiences.

We are looking forward to welcoming guests for a New Year's Eve dinner on Tuesday.
As with this time of year there are a few bugs going around and we have had a couple of cancellations...
SO! If you are still at a loss (or a last-minute planner) we do have some space, please feel free to message on socials or book online. All time slots are open to enable bookings, but will be inviting you to arrive at 8pm for 8.15/8.30 sitting. We would LOVE to welcome the New Year in with YOU!

There is a tiny, inconvenient bit of closed road, right at the bottom of the driveway to The Mount.

It is not passable, if you are coming from the M5 / town I’m afraid you need to go up the dual carriageway, cross the dual carriageway at The Nags head (or go up to the garage and turn there if not feeling brave) then back down and take the small left turn AFTER the Nag’s Head turnoff. (With road closed sign on it, I discovered this morning)

Apologies for the inconvenience - we understand it’s some groundwork for the house at the bottom.

Our Pheasant Supper is now available to book!
Tender pheasant breast, slow-cooked leg and beautiful Autumn vegetables - served with a warming drop of red wine. (Vegetarian main course available)

Happy International Chef’s day to our incredible brigade - missing Alex from the pics, our newest recruit as we haven’t snapped him yet, and part-timer Harry.

We’re in need of a strong bar tender for Saturday night and Sunday lunch services. Must have a can-do attitude and be good under pressure, these are our busiest shifts.
There may be scope, for the right person, to provide one extra shift a week if a 16hr contract is required.

Those of you that have been with us for years know that we pull the pheasant supper out of the bag this time every year.
As Olly gets the pheasant young and fresh and cooks them in the water bath we get great feedback on how the bird is neither too gamey or dry - both usual with pheasant if hung too long or cooked too fast.
3-course Pheasant Supper and a bottle of red available to book now (Wed to Fri evenings) and available from 16th October.
