The Old School B&B

The Old School B&B A quaint bed & breakfast full of old school charm, situated near the stunning West Somerset coast. Charles & Martine welcome you. Perfect location.

The Old School Bed & Breakfast is a beautifully presented Victorian building which was used as a school until 1934. It is located in the peaceful and picturesque village of Sampford Brett in West Somerset. We are situated in the very heart of this lovely Somerset village. The School was built in 1867 by its benefactor Sir Alexander Acland-Hood and opened on 20 April 1868 with 53 pupils. It closed

as a school in 1934 with just 7 children on the roll. Sampford Brett is situated at the north western edge of the Quantock hills less than a mile south of Williton, just off the A358 road to Taunton. It lies in a shallow valley cut by the Sampford stream running from Aller, and its main street runs east-west from the Church to the crossroads at the western end. To the south and east of the village there is a good view of the Quantock hills and it is shielded from the main road by the rising hill to the north. The village takes its name both from the sandy ford which crossed the Doniford stream between Sampford Brett and Woolston and from the Brett Family. For eating out, try the local pubs in Williton, Watchet, Stogumber and Bicknoller. Local Attractions

Situated on the Coleridge Way, Sampford Brett is an ideal stopping off place between the villages of Bicknoller and Monksilver for walkers. Coleridge himself would have passed the Church of St George which is opposite The Old School. Railway enthusiasts will also be familiar with this area which is the home of the West Somerset Railway. Running on nearly 25 miles of track, steam trains pass close to Sampford Brett on route to Minehead from Bishops Lydeard. Nearby are the charming harbour town of Watchet, historic Dunster and popular seaside resort Minehead. For quiet sandy beaches, try the coast at Blue Anchor and Dunster. The National Trust offers Dunster Castle, Selworthy and Coleridge Cottage as places of interest within easy reach. The Quantock Hills , The Brendon Hills and the Exmoor National Park provide plenty of walking opportunity.
