The 2016 Rally will be held at Norton Fitzwarren, just outside Taunton, which will echo to the sight, sound and smell of many mighty steam engines as they gather for what will be the 29th Rally. A glittering array of superb machinery will be in action and 2016 looks like beating all records with some of the country's finest examples of vintage transport on display. Somerset is home to a tremendous variety of festivals from the world-famous Glastonbury to a variety of smaller local ones. Currently running is the Simonsbath Festival which celebrates the cultural heritage of Exmoor with opera, jazz, classical music concerts and all sorts of other events, including walks, talks and an art exhibition. The Festival Players return for their eighth production of open air Shakespeare on 4th June 2016. This year it is Hamlet. Pack up a rug, chair and picnic and enjoy the ambience of Cothay Manor on a Summer's evening. Doors open at 6pm, curtain up 7pm. You should have time for a little wander through the borders as well. We have been taking our time over this 51 mile walk from Nether Stowey to Lynmouth and so far have thoroughly enjoyed the stages we have completed. It really is the prettiest trail up and down dale from the Quantock Hills and over Exmoor. Now with the weather improving and the footpaths drying out daily it is a good chance to plan a perfect weekend away to walk some of the route. [ 38 more words. ]

Rain, rain, rain and then suddenly Spring. It's strange how it catches me out each year. February arrives and in my garden the snowdrops pop up. Here in West Somerset we also have the charming SNOWDROP VALLEY to visit near Wheddon Cross. You can drive over the Brendon Hills or book a ride on the local Steam Train to get there.
