We have converted the boat sheds and workshop of our Shaldon waterfront property into an architect-designed holiday bolthole - an idyllic destination for couples, friends and families to unwind and relax. When searching for a name we stumbled upon the popular current phenomenon of 'Hygge' - The Danish word of the moment - previously unknown to all but the most hardcore Scandophiles, Hygge defies l
iteral translation - "cosiness” being a workable approximation – it’s not exactly that, but rather, a feeling of calm togetherness and the enjoyment of simple pleasures - this is what Hygge House delivers. Bedroom one has a king size double bed whilst bedroom two has two singles that can become a superking size 'zip and link' for couples. A travel cot is available and for occasional use a fifth guest can be accomodated in communal space on a raised, comfy camp bed, complete with quality bedding. Both bedrooms are en suite - one with bath and shower and one with a shower that has disabled access. Thick cotton bath and hand towels are provided, as are soap, shower gel and toilet paper. The open plan living area has comfortable sofas and chairs with a welcoming log burner with plenty of wood, kindling & matches available. The Smart TV has Freeview and On Demand Channels available, linking to Sonos surround sound that can be operated from your smart phone / iPad app. Board games and cards are kept in the TV cabinet. Brio Train track and Dolls House available on request, plus other wooden toys. The kitchen is fully appointed with neff oven, induction hob, integral microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher and washing machine. We provide washing up liquid, dishwasher tabs, laundry detergent, etc. Tumble drying can be requested if wet weather catches you out! The dining area seats four, with the table extendable and chairs available to accommodate any additional dinner guests. High chair and plastic bowls, spoons, etc available on request. Private enclosed garden areas for barbecuing (gas barbq available) and relaxing are accessible at the front and back of the property with views of the Teign Estuary out to sea and up to Dartmoor. The garden shed is stocked with buckets, spades, crabbing nets and beach bags for days out. Picnic bags and ice blocks are available on request and beach towels can be provided at a small additional cost. Dogs are welcome, but some strict house rules do apply - dogs to be on leads at all times on the premises (no eating our chickens!). Dogs not allowed on furniture or in the bedrooms.
