It always a good day for a pie here at the Hundred House🥰
Here’s a little insight into our homemade pies we make every week using quality ingredients from local butcher meat to garden herbs we grow ourselves🥰
For that iconic shape we use a great company based in Birmingham called Silverwoods that provide us with our British-made pie mould’s for that classic pie look!

Curried Cauliflower (Vegan)
shepherds Pie

Today is the 5th “team anniversary” for our wonderful team members, Restaurant Manager Dave & Administration & Receptionist Jaydene!

They represent the naturing of talent in Dave, who joined us at the tender age of 15 and already highly experienced Jaydene.

Dave started with the Wedding team to provide incredible experiences for our couples, then went on to the restaurant & hotel in order to gain multiple experiences as part of his apprenticeship.

Dave received a distinction in “Level 4 Hospitality Management”, whilst still “on the job” along with an advanced leadership course courtesy of Shropshire Chamber 💪👏👏👏.

Great achievement Dave, the feedback from your tutor was amazing and we see it everyday in your work ethic 🤩.

He is wise beyond his years and an integral part of our team. Liked by colleagues and customers alike, he regularly gets named in great reviews and one guest last month even took the time to hand write a 2 page A4 letter of thanks! Himself being a publican, with not much time on his hands makes it even more impressive! There’s no doubt he has a very bright future and we hope it will be with us for many more years to come.

Jaydene was already well established in hospitality, highly experienced in many roles and came to us from a spa & leisure management role.

We often laugh that Jaydene seems to know everyone in the whole of Telford 😂, probably because she’s one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet and always cheerful! 🥰

We’re very lucky to have her onboard too, she’s always helping out over and above, both customers, the otherall needs of the business and team mates. She’s like a big sister to a lot of the younger team members and always has wise advice to give them when they need a second opinion.

Jaydene looks after everything from Wedding bookings, invoices, the HUGELY varied role within reception, sales and more!

Both are a joy to call our team mates, Happy 5th Hundred House anniversary to you both 🫶.

There was a surprise in store for last Tuesday’s Bride & Groom, Sarah & Richard!
Bride Sarah works for the fire service (hero alert!), and her sister arranged for her colleagues to drive a fire engine in front of the Barn whilst they were in the ceremony (all helped by our wedding team in a super slick but tad sneaky manner!)
They even performed a Guard of Honour for them to walk out of their ceremony into! Sarah was overwhelmed, tears of joy ensued for her, a few guests (and a team member or two, yes, we’re soppy and regularly have a cry at ceremonies too!)
Their day was filled with sunshine, love and laughter and it was an absolute honor for us to host your big day!
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Boyne, welcome to The Hundred House family xx

Here at the Hundred House we have a 40 year track record of taking youngsters under our wing then developing and training them in the arts of hospitality and cuisine .
Here’s the one and only Bobbie Anne Hutchings receiving her distinction diploma in level 2 food and cookery from Nigel Huxley the chef apprentice director at Shrewsbury college of food where Bobbie studied whilst following her 2 year apprenticeship at the Hundred House
Now fully qualified as a commis chef Bobbie takes her place in the kitchen team helping run the starter and pastry sections as well as being a big help to wedding chef Andrew during this busy week when we are hosting 5 weddings .
Best of luck to Bobbie we are sure she is going to have a super career in quality hospitality and a big thanks to Nigel and the Hundred House team who have given time and care to get this fledgling career of the ground. 👏😀

Stuart's had his radio interview yesterday with BBC Shropshire Radio discussing load's of interesting topics of the current hospitalitly industry struggles and mainly looking at the decrease in employment for young people in the industry and why that is.

Out later today is a piece on one of our talented young chef's Bobbie who has just recieved a distinction in her commis chef apprenticeship she did here at the Hundred House🥰

The gift that keeps on giving☹️. Are times not hard enough for everyone?

Country pubs with scenic views, playgrounds, and large car parks are about to be hit with a new "nice pub tax" from HMRC. 😯

Tax officials have been handed new guidance to start charging higher business rates to pubs located in attractive spots like riverbanks or green spaces.

The move marks a significant shift in how boozers across the country will be assessed during this year's revaluation exercise.

Pubs that serve premium-priced gastropub menus, or those offering daytime coffee and late-night trading, will also face much larger tax bills.

Business rates are calculated by the Valuation Office based on a property's rateable value.

Because the last valuation was carried out during the extreme circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, publicans are already bracing for a massive hike in their assessments.

Industry leaders are warning that many landlords simply will not be able to absorb these new costs.

Shadow Communities Secretary Sir James Cleverly has harshly criticised Labour's approach. "Labour's business rates raid is heaping misery onto struggling pubs across England," he said.

"Having promised to get bills down, Rachel Reeves has instead sent them soaring."

UKHospitality chief executive Allen Simpson pointed out that the sector has been paying far more than its fair share of tax for decades.

He warned that the government needs to honour its commitment to lower rate bills for the entire hospitality industry.

A government spokesperson defended the move, insisting that HMRC surveyors are using standard industry valuation methods.

They also claimed they are cutting this year's business rates by 15 per cent and extending World Cup opening hours to help venues grow.
