This has to b my favourite time of year, the birds are in full singing mode busy making their nests, the hedgerows are in bloom with beautiful blossom, there is a carpet of bluebells in the bottom of the hedgerows and shaded wooded areas, its not too hot and best of all the fies are few & far between.
I went to move the cattle to a fresh paddock tonight and it was lovely to see everything in full bloom, the spring crops were very grateful of the recent rain and are galloping away, the herbal leys are making a great recovery after been recently grazed and it's easy to forget the stress of last years dry time & forage shortages, although last week we were doing rain dances & singing in the shower, the rain we had has helped but we still need more.
Anyway for now I'm going to enjoy seeing nature bloom & watching the cows & calves happily grazing, we have no idea yet what this year will bring so best not to worry about it for now. πŸŒ±πŸŒΈπŸŒ³πŸŒΏπŸ¦πŸžπŸ‚

Spring into Spring
I don’t know about you, but I have that Spring feeling about me the last few days, the nights are starting to draw out, sunrise is creeping earlier each day the birds are chattering, and the rain is not as persistent as it was last month – Spring is finally on its way – HURRAY!

There is even more on a spring feeling on the farm at the moment with the arrival of new born lambs skipping & jumping about the fields, the daffodils will be soon be in full bloom which look absolutely stunning as you drive into Sambrook, the barley growing in the fields has had its first nutrient feed as that starts to wake up from it’s winters sleep and the grass is really starting to grow, we are planning on turning out some of our youngstock in the next day or two once we have been round and checked all the fences, I really enjoy seeing the cattle out grazing the fields. Our suckler cows are due to start calving at the end of the month so they will stay in the shed for a few more weeks yet.

This is a great time of year for walking whether it is a short stroll from our cottages down to the mill pool to see the ducks, herons, swans, egrets, geese, kingfishers (if you can spot them on the river) or the moor hens darting about. For those that like to stretch there legs a bit further why not pop on your walking boots and grab a map from the cottage and see if you can see the buzzards flying around, listen out for the skylarks or Woodpeckers, stride out and fill your lungs with fresh air knowing that there is a cosy underfloor heated cottage ready and waiting for your return to rest those tired legs.

Oh course we don’t only have great walks straight from the cottage if you want to go a bit further there are many great walks along the canals especially from The Wharf at Goldstone or the Norbury Junction both of which serve great meals or take a picnic and head up the Wrekin or down to the Shropshire Hills for a fix of spectacular scenery. β›…οΈπŸŒΌπŸŒ³πŸ‘πŸ¦†πŸ₯ΎπŸ₯ΎπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸšΆ
