We're all gutted to have to tell you about the passing on Sunday of Kovu the Meerkat.

Many of you will have met Kovu on our experiences and he used to love cuddling under peoples tops or in their hoods. He was a real character and loved by all the staff and visitors.

He had been struggling for a while due to a genetic kidney issue and whilst medication had helped on Sunday, after discussion with our vet, it was decided that it would be unfair for him to continue.

As you can imagine this has been a very tough time for Kovu's keepers and also his brother Uuka.

Uuka's wellbeing has also been at the forefront of our thoughts as Meerkats are not solitary animals and he has lived with Kovu for the past 7 years. Fortunately we've been able to introduce another Meerkat to him to help ease his pining.

I'm sure some of you will probably be wondering about Meerkat Experiences going forward and whilst this isn't our highest priority it is understandable.

Since March 2020 we have reduced the handling element of the experience (due to COVID) and that will remain. The experiences will be relatively unaffected with you continuing to meet all our Meerkats who will be free to climb on you should they wish..

Until the Rainbow Bridge Kovu 🌈

As many of you may be aware 2021 is a big year for us. This year we celebrate our 30th birthday and have some big news we would love to share with you all.....

Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom is becoming Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World.

Over the past 30 years we have grown from a small farm park to being one of the midlands premier attractions, even winning National Farm Attraction of the Year in the early 2000s.

Alongside animal welfare and conservation, education is something we're extremely passionate about and the decision to create our very own 'Hoo-Rassic World' ties into that.

With 15 full size moving dinosaurs (and other ancient beasts) spread throughout a woodland walk and prehistoric related activities throughout the day (alongside our normal animal filled timetable) we are really enthused about this next step for Hoo Farm (now Hoo Zoo).

Hoo-Rassic World will be open from the 12th April with an official launch day on May Day Bank Holiday when we will have even more activities taking place.

The last 30 years has been a roller-coaster and we thank all of you for joining us at some stage along the way. Many of our customers over that time period have become friends and we are now starting to see the third generation of families visiting us.

We are sure the next 30 years will be even better, this is not the end of Hoo Farm but merely the start of Hoo Zoo. We look forward to seeing you all on the 12th April, tickets will go on sale soon.

In the meantime, thank you for the last 30 years and continue to stay safe.

The Hoo Zoo Family.

P. S. We know that a big step such as this will no doubt cause a few questions so we've dropped a little FAQ at https://www.hoofarm.com/hoo-zoo-and-dinosaur-world-faq/.
We respectfully ask that you check if your question is here before commenting as I'm sure there will be enough comments to respond to. It is our upmost intention throughout this transition to be as transparent with our loyal customers as possible.

* Hoo's Knows *
• The coati has a long, flexible snout and a slender, darkly banded tail that it often carries erect as it moves about. It has coarse fur that is gray to reddish or brown, sometimes close to black with lighter underparts and light facial markings.
• They prefer to sleep or rest in elevated places and niches, like the rainforest canopy, in crudely built sleeping nests.
• Like their raccoon relatives, they are curious and resourceful creatures and are very good climbers.
• They usually carry their tails erect when they walk with their bear-like gait.
• Coatis are intelligent and highly adaptable animals. They climb and forage both in trees and on the ground.
• Coatis are omnivores, with a highly varied diet of small vertebrate prey (lizards, rodents, birds, bird eggs, and crocodile eggs), ground-litter invertebrates, and fruit.
• They have a great sense of smell, and they use their snouts to root the ground in a pig-like manner to unearth invertebrates. They also dig up food with their powerful paws and claws. They travel about 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) each day foraging for food...

*Hoo's Knows*

In captivity, Spectacled Owls have a lifespan of 25 years.

The breeding season of the Spectacle Owl falls between November and May.

The clutch size of these owls range from 1 to 2 eggs and the incubation period is 5 weeks. After 5 to 6 weeks, the chicks leave their nests but cannot fly. A pair will continues to nurse their chicks for about 1 year.

The owl is widely found across Central and South America. It is present all the way from Belize, Honduras and up to Panama in Central America and Venezuela, Paraguay and all the way up to Argentina to the south.

They are found in thick rainforests and open shrublands. They can roost as high as 4,000 feet above sea level.
Spectacled owl hunts during the night and likes to feed on small mammals like Peters’ climbing rat. They also eat bats, small monkeys, caterpillars, frogs, insects and birds.

During moonlit nights, Spectacled Owl makes a series of ‘pup-pup-pok-pok’ kind of tapping sounds. It makes different calls and hoots something like “hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo”.. Sounds like Hoo hoo hoo faaaarm might be the best place to see one and our one was also in Harry Potter! Really it was!!
